Solana tank owner thread.

thanks gamepro. Do you get pretty good light penetration in the tank with them that high up and angled sorta towards the disco ball. Any pics with just the LED's on that you can share? Go Gators. ;)

My biggest battle with microbubbles was fixed by "fixing/adusting" the tube that came from the return pump. Not sure if it was the elbow or the tube but i retightened it and made sure it was all 90degree turns (originally it was twisting) and it seemd to help...

Although i still have debris always floating around in my tank..

Thanks for the tip, I will check that out for sure.

Your debris comment did not make me feel better !!! :spin1:

Unfortunately they dont photograph well, but penetration is great (insert joke here) they are a 4 watt unit with 4 bulbs 1 watt each. I put them up and at an angle b/c if not they were more like 4 individual spot lights instead of an overall light for the whole tank. But they really make your corals glow especially the orange and reds. I will try to get you a pick but I gurantee it will not do it any justice. I also have a stunner strip on my 10 gal zoe tank and these are ok but they arnt near as bright and dont make the corals look near as good like the powerbrites do just my $.02

Officially in! Downsized from a 75g with 30g sump. :(

ATI SP is obv temp from my old tank. Looking to get a Maxspect 110w or 160w after this light is picked up. Running the Sapphire Aquatics BC28 skimmer, stock return pump, and Reefkeeper 2. ATO in cabinet with 5.5g tank.

Debris is my own fault... unrinsed sand AND very fine sand = lots of floating stuff

It looks better after every water change...

I've been doing every other day changes to try and pick up what has shed off the rock and floating around the tank.

Stuffed chamber two full of filter floss last night. Later today will be the reconfigure of all the chambers and get the skimmer back up and running.

I just set up my solana and added water last night. I'm waiting for delivery of my Maxspect G2-110 this week. Still need to order the ATO and RKL. But, it's wet, I'm going to the lfs for a few select pieces of "premium" fully cured LR and letting the cycle begin.

Feel free to offer any suggestions.....this is my first reef.

Thanks.

I'd look into buying some cheap LR to place as your base and use it to cycle the tank. Looks like you have some rock, but it's void of life?

Do you have a light yet?

Is there any sea life in it?

Not sure what your LFS considers "premium". I wouldn't go spending a lot of $$ on the LR. Find pieces that will fit your planned rockscape and let it seed what you currently have in there. Coralline Algae will come in time and it will all look like "premium" rock.

What is your LFS asking for their rock? Where is the rock from? Fiji is typically less expensive than say Pukani or Tonga.

Sweet rockwork. Is that homemade rock or were you lucky enough to find rock that works that well with your idea.

Great for water circulation, but how will coral placement work?

Thanks Kweli!

It's real rock. Dry rock from reef cleaners . org

The scape is viewable from 3 sides, so coral placement will be staggered along the spires.

Lighting should be here today I hope. I did get some "premium" lr from the lfs. It's pretty decent. Covered in coraline. So far I have found a few bristle worms, a small bristle star, some pods, and what appears to be a small piece of chaeto. I have also noted 2 small "bugs" that appear to have a black shell. Not sure what they are. More pics to come when the lighting is installed.
