Solana tank owner thread.

Im not sure I understand the question ? you want help using the equipment you already have or you want help finding better equipment . and is it only FLOW your concerned with ? i mean looking at the coraline growth the tank seems healthy enough

I've been having a hard time with my tank lately.

I can't reach a nice balance of flow for my LPS corals. I have a single Tunze Nanostream and the stock return pump in the tank. The live rock was given to me by the previous owner and I had already taken it out, removed some corals and reshaped the rock as well as the total aquascape.

When I first got the tank it had some mixed SPS and LPS but mostly SPS. I got rid of all the SPS except for the Stag that you will see at the top.

I've had the tank for about 6 months now but I'm starting to think about going to something different. Please help me out and convince me to keep this Solana!

What are some options that you guys can think of with the equipment and live rock that I already have? Looking for all and any opinions good or bad!

Correct, I'm trying to find a solution to getting the flow for my LPS for full polyp extension. The Hammer is the only one that does not fully extend and I'm having a hard time finding a spot for him.

The health of the tank isn't a concern. My corals are all growing and the coraline growth is excellent.

My main problem is that the large rock on the left side of the tank is just so huge there is really no good spot for it. It takes up alot of space but doesn't really allow for a good surface to put the corals on. Unless I'm just having a huge mental block:hmm2:

So I see 2 issues the first is you need to bounce the existing powerhead off of something rather than pointing it up. If its pointed up to break up the surface water your better off pointing the return lines up to do that. Secondly you need an additional powerhead or best case a vortex on the opposite side for maximum random flow..... Thats just my humble opinion

The best thing to do is to upgrade to the vortech mp10 or mp 20. Get a dry dock so you can put the vortech in the center of the back wall and then you can adjust the flow as you need to.

10 days no new post I think this thread is dead. On a side note I think I will be selling my Solana soon upgrading to a bigger tank. Might keep it as a QT tank for a bit then sell, we will see.

I have one but im clear over on the other coast and because of the shape of the mounting pole the box required to ship would make it pretty expensive

Still have our Solana after 3 years and loving it! We are thinking about upgrading to led. So to test out led we added them to our 12g JBJ nano (cheaper cost for smaller tank) to see how stuff grows. My only concern is a clam under led.

I'm thinking about getting the Ai sol blue and upgrading the skimmer to a tunze 9002? Any advice.

our tunze skimmer seems to work well. It can be a little noise if you don't have it tweaked well. But I think that is w all skimmers.

I put the slimline (the ai was out of my budget) over my solana in july, so far all my corals are doing fine.
