Solana tank owner thread.

I have a pair of black and white clowns, and just ordered a Mystery Wrasse. He's supposed to arrive tomorrow. should be a good match.

You could try a mystery wrasse or go with a shrimp/goby pair. Those are very fascinating.

Some blurry pics of my Solana. I last posted in this thread months ago when my tank was being set up.

Redid the aquascaping recently, made some towers. Blurry picture:

My new jawfish, I made him a PVC home and epoxied that scallop shell to it.

Thought I would get some feedback.

awesome tank! that jawfish house is funny

Thanks. Here is the picture of the PVC home, before I attached the scallop shell to it. Someone else (I don't remember if it was on this site, or another) had done it before, and I thought it was pretty neat. My fish seems to love it, he never leaves his home.

What size PVC did you use? Looks great. I may make one for my build. Not sure if I will go for the blue spot, but it is on my short list.

1 inch PVC is what I used. I was looking for barnacle shells to epoxy to the opening but couldn't find any. So I got some scallop shells instead.

You can also see the holes I drilled in the PVC, I wanted small holes for a little bit of water flow. Not huge so a bunch of sand will fall through. I'm not sure exactly how much water flows through it, but the guy who originally did this drilled holes, so I did too.

Also made a mesh lid for the tank. I used 1/2" acrylic, if I had to do it again, I would go with thinner. I was worried about bowing of the frame, but the acrylic is stronger than it looks. Plus, the mesh I used does not pull on it very hard. Here are some pics.

That is a scrap piece of mesh, when I get the time, I'll put one on that is not torn.

It doesn't seem to block much light at all, the clam does not even notice when I take it on and off.

I almost became a member of the Solana club today, but UPS delivered the tank cracked. :(

Oh well, maybe next week.

I've been waiting over a week to even get shipping confirmation. :( I guess that is better than getting it cracked. Sorry to hear.

Any of you guys have this problem?

I didn't, because I read a lot of these same issues with UPS and Fed Ex, and so I had my LFS order it from their local distributor and it was shipped on a pallet and not tossed about...you should probably try this method or keep risking damaged goods.

Totally agree. I had two tanks delivered that were smashed to smithereens. The third tank I picked up from LFS.

I just sent back my 2nd failed attempt today, actually.

I was told that I get one more chance then I just get a refund.

Apparently they didn't take kindly to me telling them that the words "FRAGILE" and "GLASS" should be on the outside of the box... :eek1: A little padding in the box would have helped too...

In defense of UPS, the tank doesn't even say Glass or fragile.

The tank only has 1/4 inch foam on the corners and the box to protect it.

The UPS guy thought it was more wheels for my Camaro.:eek1:

Just got shipping conformation on the second one.

Wish me luck. :)

Oh ya, Shipping weight on the first one was 55lbs and this one is at 63lbs. I would imagine the extra weight is maybe a more beefed up shipping box..... I hope.

I ordered mine from the LFS. My tank and stand were fine however my Disco ball light was dented and was missing the instuctions and was very dirty I think the LFS repacked an older light they had lying around and hoped I wouldnt notice. They are however replacing it free of charge but now I have to wait. I hate waiting.

gamepro, that's real sketchy if true. How did they act when you brought it back, if you don't mind me asking
