Solana tank owner thread.

That's what I had read during research and planning. I have ordered the ReefKeeper SL2 module and a switch kit to do this, just need Digital Aquatics to actually ship it with the rest of my toys! :(

I am having problems with micro bubbles in mine. My current setup is a Sapphire Aquatics Skimmer, dumping onto the blue pad in the first tray, Cheato, a Marineland Rite-Size A cartridge and then a bag of Purigen.

Any suggestions? The skimmer is hyper active now (but working well) so I do not know if it is just a matter of waiting a few days for everything to settle down?

Hey Myreef, do you have any pictures of how your Tunze ATO is setup?

I have an idea, but would love to see it.

And MVlk, my skimmer isn't powerful enough.. the bubbles don't reach high enough so I can't really help out. I bought a Warner Marine H2 for it, so hopefully that should solve the problem ;)

Finally got a shipping notice on part of my Digital Aquatics order. It at least has enough to setup my ATO. Turned off my pumps for feeding tonight and not only did the stock ATO container float up, but the whole container emptied.

:mad2: :mad2: :mad2:

Why do they even include this with the tank! I am going to just do it manually myself till my float switches and SL2 arrive.

I'm either going with the Tunze ATO or the Reef Keeper ATO (have the Lite controller already) so I'm very interested in the DA's ATO.

Let me know how it goes!

I have the Tunze and love it.

I've heard great things about the Osmolator, but it's more expensive than the DA ATO, and I've heard great things about that one as well..

If you have a RKL or RKE, almost no reason not to use it for an ATO. Just toss a float switch or two on it and you are good to go. Assuming you already use and SL1 or SL2 of course. With the RKL or RKE, you can then actually do more complex setups. I plan on using one of my standby settings for maintenance. When I select it, it will turn off all pumps and disable the ATO so I can drop the water down without worry of the ATO dumping top off.

any of you with solana who are not using the stand? I have the HQI pendant but i am going to put the tank on my office desk, so trying to figure out a mod to get that pendant on the office desk without having to drill any holes. Maybe build legs for it?? Anyone done anything like this?

The water level isn't a problem it is just leveling off with the display that's all. Those top off bottles stink and don't last long so I would just take them out anyway I still manually top off as needed every day. I went to best buy out when I first got this tank and got myself a geek squad 1285va UPS. The exact same one I have on my computer. I have the Return Pump for the solana, the return pump for my 14g biocube and my vortech MP10 hooked into it. 2 weeks ago we lost power, and the UPS kept everything going like a champ for almost 5 hours.

This was great news for me. I was extremely happy with it's progress. Just a suggestion for you though.

Here is a pic of the re-aquascaping of my solana.

I've had my Solana running for about 6 weeks. Just two fish and 1 coral so far, but everything is working great.....EXCEPT for the top off bottles. The plate they sit on is just not sturdy. Sometimes the bottles sink. Sometimes the water level drops and the bottles do nothing. Not sure why.

Anyway, time for an ATO. I've looked back through this thread, and it seems like the Tunze Osmolator is the most popular for the Solana. Is this the right one that will fit in the Solana? Any tips on installing it? I assume I install the sensors in the 3rd chamber, after removing the bottles and supporting plate?

Unfortunately, I'm going to be able to fit only about a 2.5g reservoir in the (stock) cabinet, because I already have a chiller sitting in there as well.

Thanks much.

Hi Everyone. I have a 25 gallon Solana that I recently set-up and love. 6x18 T5 with an MP10. The only problem is the stock skimmer hasn't produced an ounce of skimmate in a week and is very noisy.

I am looking between the sapphire skimmer and the Tunze 9002 nano skimmer. Of these two, which is more quiet? Which performs the best?

Thanks. I'll be posting my tank journal in the next couple of days.

You could build a base for it. My idea would be to make a base that fights tightly around outside of the tank, and sort of make it to look like wood trim around the bottom of the aquarium. On the back side you could use a taller piece to mount the light to.
