Solana tank owner thread.

I would not worry about the tank stressing too much from the wave. Previous page had several owners stating they do a wave without issue.

Quick update on my tank. I setup my above display refugium v3.0 today. Here is a quick shot. More details in my homepage.

That is what gave me the idea actually. I brought up the fact that I have one going and a couple local reefers thought it might bust a seal. I just want to double check because I doubt the apt below me would appreciate it raining in their living room :lmao:

Two months in and currently battling a diatom outbreak :sad2::mad2:!

So hard to let it be but I think I'm going to hold off doing a waterchange as I've read/heard that can help.

Question...does anyone siphon out the gunk that settles at the bottom of the three back chambers?

On a good note...got my ATO from autotopoff.com the other day and it's SO NICE to not have to topoff manually now :bounce3:!

Just cheato for now. Got a Kenya tree and a couple of hairy mushrooms in there temporarily because I did not want them in the display. I hope to build up some diversity over the next couple of months. Need to add a CUC as well. Other than pods, the only thing in there now is a small crab. It was the only one in my display and I just tossed him in.

Ugggg!!!
Cleaned my stock skimmer body and microbubble city :( I guess the slime needs to build up again for them to go away like when I started this tank up, won't do that again :)

Nice fuge MVik. Looks good. I'm certainly jealous. I still need to set up my fuge in chamber 2.

Got a MJ900 for a return pump today. Will add it and a Phoenix 14k 150w bulb to the tank's setup during the next water change.

Thx. Still need to dial in the return a bit, but seems pretty stable. Hopefully this will add some nice stability to the system.

Good luck on the MJ return pump change. I am still considering that as well.

Yea it definitely should. Nice healthy fuge will definitely help the tank out.

Thanks. I'll let ya know how it goes.

I've noticed since I added the fuge under the tank, I have a lot more stable water parameters, esp.. my ph, calc, and alk... and now I have pods out the ying yang in my back compartment where my skimmer use to be... I do like the idea of a gravity return fuge than a pump returned fuge, that's how I'll set up my next reef system, gravity all the way, I want a to make sure a mandarin can flourish... Keep us updated......

In theory the gravity return eliminates the chance the pods get chopped by the return pump from the fuge. Of course that does not really hold true in my design since the stock return pump from the display back area is still in play. However this design does nicely eliminate the need to drill the tank or fool with hang on overflows.

Oh the LED is a PacificSun 90 W programable fixture - I am looking for anyone who has purchased a fixture or made there own- the pro's and con's and has anyone uses DIY legs to support and LED - I would prefer not to hang it

I was going to go with the aquaillumination fixture, but just felt it was too much like a spotlight once I actually saw it. The only thing commercial I am still looking into is the Maxspect from China. It looks super nice.

Solana Resevoir

Solana Resevoir

I'm having a custom resevoir made to house top off an my 2 part for the bottom of my Solana Stand. I will be able to hold 6 gallons for top off and hold one gallon each of part a an part B.

Also will be submitting photos an starting my rebuild thread. I have been fighting with Neomeris Sp (Catapillar Weed) it completely took over my tank an 10 months later I'm starting to win the battle. Tank an aquascape look great now. Will be posting a build thread with plenty of photos.
