Solana tank owner thread.

They are pretty common on Florida or Caribbean Live Rock and Actually get pretty nice as they mature they turn a reddish color, The tentacles that Is.

The Aqua Lift pump works great for ATO on our tanks. I like that it does not dump too much in before the float switch triggers. The things are work horses, cheap and darn near indestructible. Mine has been soaked twice now and is still running like a champ. I even add Kalk to my top off and see no signs of wear.

Cool I will have to get one, thanks for the info.

lpsouth1978, what kind of fax fixture is that in your avatar?

Also to the group, does anyone have a pic of a solana in the corner of a room? Trying to contemplate where to put a new setup and I wanted to see what this might look like in a corner. Do you think that's a bad idea for ever having to get to anything in the back of the tank?

I have mine in the corner and I really like it that way. I can hide my chiller behind it and I have room to slip back there if I need work in the rear chambers.

I'll take a pic and post if for you.

I'm new to the Solana community and was wondering if anyone had trouble attaching the handles/knobs to the Solana stand? I ordered mine from Drs. Foster and Smith, and I swear the knob screws are way too short and don't reach the handle. They sent me a replacement hardware set but that had the same issue. The screws I have are 3/4". Thanks for any help!

if the knob threading is std size, its 8-32 you want. you can just go to Home Depot and get a longer size.

Those MH lights must really make that tank hot. What range of temp are you all setting as your goal to reach, I'm usually in the 78.9 - 79.9 range with my T5s, is that a good normal range?

My tank stays right at 80 with my ambient room temp at 70. Even with the lights off it stays at about 79 to 79.5. IMO anything between 78 and 82 is acceptable, though that depends on what you have in your tank. some species like cooler water.

My tank has a 250w MH and it rarely gets above 79.2. I have a RKL that has a AZOO 2 fan blade unit turn on at 79.0 degrees. This is with both summer and winter indoor temperatures.

YES!!! I found you!! haha hey south1978, IN the nano TOTM page I wanted to know where you got those fans for your tank. It almost looks like they are specifically made for the solana.....
I too have a solana and man that thing cooks sometimes........
GO SOLANA!!!!

hooked, thanks. Me (and especially the wife) appreciate it. :D

Here you go. It'd look even better if the electrical outlet was closer to the corner.

yeah those MH just cook the water. the lighting I have was originally a 70 watt MH by current. But I had the solana pendant also. So I figured why not take the 70 ballast out then re-wire the 150 watt ballast and change the bulb holder for the larger bulb. So i did. well in doing so the built in fan on the housing of the light no longer work. So now since I dont have a chiller, i need some type of fan. In summer I run the a/c all day so even though I dont have a chiller the tank stays fine.

what sort of water evaporation do you guys with fans see? a gallon a day?

Hooked4ife, thanks for the pic.
