Solana tank owner thread.

I just checked the shipping status, due to arrive 7/6. I am actually a little disappointed they did not upgrade the shipping after the long wait... Will need to check invoices to see if they shipped for free like I heard they would.

EDIT: Invoice still shows shipping charge! :( I know the availability was out of their control... still a little miffed though.

EDIT EDIT: Just got off the phone with them. Store Credit issued since their system can only refund on orders less than 60 days... Still OK. Bad news is the bulbs are not the right size for the NEP! I will need to adjust the fixture spacing to work with them. Supposedly it takes only a few minutes. I ordered all new UVL bulbs luckily as I am not sure the fixture would be able to mix Current and UVL because of this. Again, out of the control of Nanotuners, but disappointing none the less.

I'm glad I sold my NEP. It was a great fixture but the issue with the bulbs is a major problem. So happy I bought a 250w Sunpod before they all disappeared.

Will not fit the NEP without an adjustment... I'll post details on what is involved when I get the bulbs next week.

I know this is taboo with a rimless tank but has anyone made a canopy for their Solana. My wife doesn't like all the light overspill and the look of the pendant light ( and extra junk on top of the tank) I have so she wants me to build a canopy like our other tank. Anyone have a picture.

A question for you Solana owners who are using a Tunze 9002 skimmer: Do you have to remove the magnet to make the skimmer work in the first chamber?

I removed the magnet and reglued it on the longer size and put it in Chamber 1. Fits great with the new inTank cup.

Wow, the new bulbs wont fit without modification to the NEP? That sucks. Hope its an easy modification.

Totaly DIY send me your email and i will send out additional picture with more details...
Good luck!

WLDshark PM sent.

I figure I can do a retrofit light in the canopy I just woory about heat. I do have the 2 unit azoo fan though. It may prevent carpet surfing which I have had a problem with despite my screen that I made.

What size screen do you have on the tank?

I have 1/4" mesh on my Solana without a problem with jumpers. They'd have to be superrrr tiny in order to fit through it.

What are people using as an alternative to the stock dual "lock-line" return...

They are a pain and keep snapping off as I try and adjust them...

And what about dead spots in those angled corners in the back? I seem to have one that's in the right rear and its due to the MP10 blowing to the opposite side (right to left)... right now I have one of the return blowing up into it.

For those of us that use the NEP 20" light fixture... my new UVL bulbs came in and they look great. Small mod needed on the fixture since the new bulbs are about 3/8" shorter than the stock bulbs. Was a pretty easy mod. Pictures and details are in my build thread.

I have the same screen size birdnetting but yes it's my tiny fish that keep jumping I lost a longnose hawk, tailspot blenny, and I have revived my flasher wrasse twice (found on floor still alive)

Hi all,

Just set up the smaller 25gallon Eco-Cube (smaller scale Current Solana). You al seem to have a bit of knowledge through Current, would anyone know where I can order or acquire a new replacement tank? The one I have has aggressive scratches on both the inside and outside of the glass. It's driving me insane. Thank you.

Not sure, did anyone answer your question, the "safety" setting of JBJ can be adjusted up to 14min. I had the same problem with aqualift, it is a nice slow ATO pump, if you have a water level sensitive skimmer (actually, all of nano skimmers do), you'd better using an aqualift.

This is a 'safety' feature on the JBJ ATO. I originally had the aqua lifter too for topping off my tank but I switched to a maxi-jet instead as it pumps faster and is able to fill up to my sensor before the time limit is reached.

The 18" UVL bulbs are short but according to Nanotuners this was a mistake by manufacturer and it will be corrected in the next run available in 3 months. Below is the contents of an email I received from Nanotuners on July 1.

We finally received the T5 bulbs and are ready to start shipping. However, there is one potential issue. We would like to know if you are planning to use these bulbs in a Current-USA fixture mixed with other bulbs or if you are going to be using the bulbs for a DIY application. The bulbs we received were 1/4\" shorter than what we had requested and what UVL had apparently told their factory in Hungary to manufacture. Consequently it is not possible at this time to mix and match the UVL bulbs with others in a Current fixture, but can be used if someone ran ALL UVL bulbs or was building a DIY system. We are told UVL bulbs built to the proper specifications will not be ready for another 12 weeks. Please let us know what you would like to do and we will take the next step(s) from there.

I'm still using the locklines but im about ready to ditch them. They are an eyesore in the middle of my rockwork. I do like the one aimed behind my rockwork to clear out detritus though but the other one just gets in the way.
I really think there isnt much to do about the dead spots in those stupid angled corners. Thats the one part of the tank I dislike. I have that same deadspot in the side that the MP10 is on. I have a return blowing towards it but it doesnt do much good.

Wow. Didnt think much fish could fit through those small gaps. I doubt even my tailspot blen could make it through.
I used to have 1/2" birdnetting and had it triple layers but it still had big gaps so I swapped it for the 1/4" mesh.

Here's the 1/4" mesh

Are you sure you dont have the 1/2" birdnetting? Thats what is found at Homedepot and Lowes. I purchased the 1/4" mesh from a reefer on another forum.

I've read in this thread about some drilling the back of their Solana for an oveflow box and removing the false wall. Any troubles so far? Anybody crack their tank doing this?
