Solana tank owner thread.

I am looking for a replacement for the metal clips that hold the glass in that is in the stand door. They always bend a little and make the glass rattle inside the door. I would like some sort of plastic replacement so it won't bend like the thin metal pieces. I have looks at lowes and home depot and they sell nothing that will fit properly. Any suggestions? I don't want to modify the glass or door in any way.

Updated tank pictures!

nice coralline growth, or did you paint that color on there? LoL.

i upgraded from 150disco ball to a customized LED fixture from a china manufacturer, it turned out very nicely. fit our solana tank perfect. now i don't need a chiller or a fan and the lighting is a way overkilled for SPS, I have to turn the intensity 50-75%

what is the pump for MCE300? I got a MCE600, it is a bit loud:(

Netfish...

Thanks! Coraline algae grew on its own :)

MCE300 uses a maxi-jet 1000 I think, I've only seen replacements on the D-D website. It's very quiet! The fans on my T5 fixture are the loudest part of my tank.

Has anyone modified the pendant MH lighting to added LEDs to it? Seems like it could be done if taken apart and cables run along current cables.
I would love to see photos if so and what you did. Thanks!

Anyone know how to get in touch w/ SteveT (the person who makes the modified collection cup for tunze skimmer to fit in the solana)?

I would like to replace the stock skimmer in the first chamber with another skimmer. I really don't want a HOB skimmer and would like to keep it hidden so I don't want something sticking out. I would also like something that is fairly quite. What's the best option with those considerations?

I keep lots of SPS currently without running a skimmer, but know my SPS would like it better if I had one going.

Here's a pic I just got with the LEDs. Previously, I had the disco ball 150w halide. So far my colors seem to be doing well under the LEDs.

My 400 watt halide basically blew up on me the other day. I am currently borrowing a 250 watt halide from a LFS, but need to replace my light. I have decided to do a DIY LED build for the Solana. I have donw a couple of smaller builds before and have had GREAT success.

I just want to know what others have done with LED's over solanas. What LED's did you use, how many, what colors, suggestions are welcome.

Here is what I was thinking: (keep in mind that I am the King of overkill)

12 - 19000 - 21000k Cold White 3W LED's
12 - 9000 - 12000k Cool White 3W LED's
24 - Royal Blue 3W LED's
6 - Blue 3W LED's
3 - Red 3W LED's
3 - UV Purple 3W LED's
total = 60 3W LED's
Also 4 - Royal Blue moonlight LED's

I was planning on 60 degree optics on everything except the Red, UV, and moonlights. I would have liked to do 80 degree, but 60 is the widest angle available for these LED's. All LED's will be run using 700mA dimmable drivers. I plan to have a total of 11 strings of 6 LED's consisting of 4 white strings, 4 RB strings, 1 blue string, 1 Red and UV string, and 1 moonlight string.

I know that this is a lot of LED's for a 34 gallon tank, but I like to be able to completely customize the color, by turning different strings down, and I am thinking about upgrading to a 90g corner tank and want to build the light so that it will work for that too. Let me know what you think.
