Solana tank owner thread.

Thanks, actually the screen can cover the whole back area but only when the skimmer is pushed down below the screen top and if I do that it doesn't work effectivly, I lost one tailspot blenny b/c of this but other than that all fish since the screen have been good.

What do you use to hold the screen? Yours is one of very few nice looking tops on a rimless tank.
If you care to cover the corners you can do so with clear acrylic screwed into the screen frame. Small sheets are available for a few $ from HD.

I use the same clips that came for the glass top, I just made the screen using 1/4" bird netting and made it to the inside dimensions.
 
I don't really remember If you have the glass top still just make it to those dimensions if not I can measure it when I get home (at work). But it shouldn't be that hard the metal frame cuts real easy with tin snips.
 
Good job with clips. I have the trim kit so this isn't an issue for me but I did pull out the clips and will likely use them in the future.

LightTackle -- Making the frame is easy as Gamepro said. You need to get 1/4" netting. 3/8" is a bit too big. I got some from BRS but there are likely cheaper sources. There's also some threads that say that you should use UV resistant netting if you have metal halides as the the netting will get brittle.
 
Hi fellow Solana owners - I need some lighting advice.

I am currently running three Par38 20k bulbs over my Solana. It covers side to side well, but the front three or four inches of my tank is dark.

What should I do for additional lighting at the front?

I don't really want to get three more par38s. Perhaps a reefbrite would do the trick. Another idea was to move the par38s to the front, and run three 105w CF twist bulbs at the back. I have found some that are 12k. They are not focused light though, so that would mean having to build a reflector to go around all six bulbs. Hmm.

Anyone have another idea? Thanks in advance.
 
I finished my new LED build a few days ago. I really like the color mix and am glad that I chose to include red and UV LED's. The light has only been above the tank for a few days and already I am seeing colors improve and new growth. The only exception is my pink birdsnest. It is not bleaching but has a lighter pink color. Here are some pictures to show the differences. The first is with the MH above the tank. The second is with the new LED's, white and Royal blue only. The third is the LED's with all colors, white, royal blue, standard blue, red, and UV.

Figured I would join the party! - This is my Solana with the new Kessel A150 Sky Blue LED and pre-canopy which hopefully I will have built this weekend.

Well the time has come to upgrade once again so I will be selling the Solana soon. What is the going price for a stock empty Solana with skimmer and pump, and 150 pendent MH.

I am upgrading to a larger tank probably 65g and I might do a DIY LED light.
 
Any of you planning to try out the Sol Nano? I'm curious if the mount working out with the Solana and how the spread is.
 
So somehow I lost or deleted my subscription to this thread about 2 weeks ago. I thought maybe it was my fault but as I am noticing how dead this thread is latley I am wondering if maybe it happened to more than just me?

Need some help!

I've been having a hard time with my tank lately.

I can't reach a nice balance of flow for my LPS corals. I have a single Tunze Nanostream and the stock return pump in the tank. The live rock was given to me by the previous owner and I had already taken it out, removed some corals and reshaped the rock as well as the total aquascape.

When I first got the tank it had some mixed SPS and LPS but mostly SPS. I got rid of all the SPS except for the Stag that you will see at the top.

I've had the tank for about 6 months now but I'm starting to think about going to something different. Please help me out and convince me to keep this Solana!

What are some options that you guys can think of with the equipment and live rock that I already have? Looking for all and any opinions good or bad!
