Solana tank owner thread.

I turn the sponge every 3-4 days, or i'll lift it up an inch or so little by little. During the water change i just rinse it out.

I just got the 34G [without the filtration compartment however]. Do you guys use foam under your 34G's given that their rimless?

I actually got my tank from my dad. The top of the stand was not in the best of shape because water not being cleaned up and running under the tank. If your using the original stand I would put several coats of spar varnish on the top and or add a piece of plexi glass as I did to protect the top. I did not use any foam.

Just bought an MP10 for my Solana 34 (original). Couple of questions:

1. Do I need to use the spacer?

2. Is there a way to mount the mounting clips on the glass without the white adhesive being visible inside the tank?

Thanks!

I do use the spacer. As for the clips I just used the normal ones...but I can see how you dont't want too.

Solana 34g new owner

I have recently setup a new 34 gallon Solana. I have a few years experience in reef keeping. I was forced into a downsize due to a leak accident with a custom built 54g corner tank. This tank have a mated pair of Seahorses once stable.

Here is some basic equipment specs:

Solana AIO 34g
JBJ 1/10 Chiller
Ehiem 3000 Compact return
150W Heater
Ecoxotic Panorama Stock Light
Stunner Strips (1-UV, 2-Blue) Additional light
Tunze 9002 w/ Intank cup upgrade
Intank Media Basket (Foam-top, Chemipure Elie-mid, Fuge-Bottom)

I have around 35lbs of live rock, fine sand, and tried to build natural hitches with dead tonga branch style pieces of rock. Currently there is a CUC and yellow watchman goby pair that was moved over from my last tank. I have a bunch of coral frags and will post info when I fully decide which to mount permanently.

My plan for stock:

Pair of horses (Barbouri, or similar species)
Bangai Cardinal
Yeloow Goby pistol pair
Pipefish (species?, pair?)
Mandarin ?

I would like to refer to this forum for some advice... My first question: Is anyone using a UV sterilizer out there? If so, which one and why? I feel I could benefit from the higher water purity with the Seahorses, thanks! Here are a few, the blue look was me testing the added stunner strips this morning...

Hello,

I'm a current solana 34G owner. I swapped out the stock skimmer for the tunze and added the inTank upgrade and airline mod. I do have an ATO and my water level stays as level as it can be with the ATO but I still get either little or no skim, to a complete cup full of water/wet/skim in a day or so. What is the secret? I've been struggling with this for a while and its really been a turn-off to this skimmer.

I have the same setup with the same mod and get the same results... My opinion is that my bioload is so small that there isn't much to gather. I only have one fish ATM. What do you have for livestock?

I have two clowns, a yellow wrasse, blue spotted jawfish and a yashi haze goby. Miscellaneous snails and hermits as well for CUC.

Some where I read a thread about a guy who modded a different skimmer to go in the back chamber and for the life of me I cannot find it.

Maybe you're right about the bio-load, wish I knew.

I have seen people put a small bubble magnus skimmer back there... but the tunze seems to be the most used successfully, so we should be getting results.
My bioload is much less than yours, but at best I can get the neck dirty with skim mate after a week and the cup containing water.

I'm definitely getting skim in the neck and a bit of water in the cup but never the foam I see others getting from better skimmers. Maybe I'm stressing too much.
