i switched out the return pump with the mj900 b/c it is more reliable.

How is the flow with the maxi 900 powerhead since it's only rated for 230 gph and the stock powerhead is rated up to 396 gph

That's 40% less water movement

Hello all! I'm about to join the owners thread as a real owner and not a lurker...still learning and might have some questions as I work towards my build, hope you all don't mind helping a noob?

I am using the MP20 so I dont need much flow from the back plus it keeps the water level lower so I can turn reef crest mode to 100%. Maxijet 900 uses very little wattage and is really reliable. hth

If you are going to buy the Solana with the T5's get it from Marine Depot. Free shipping.
PLUS
Go to the Solana page scroll to the bottom an get the one that is $679.00, with hanging kit and it will also come with the mounting legs.
It is the same one as (Item Code: CU80016) for $839.00, it is just that the stand is black and it doesn't have the hanging kit.

I have called Current and Marine Depot to see what the difference was. They said it is only the hanging kit and black stand. So, you get more and pay less.
Yes, I didn't understand what was going on with their pricing so I bought one.
The hanging kit is great. But, if you want you could use the legs.

Now I'm modding it!

I'm running a MJ 900. It gives the skimmer more dwell time to do it's job, less heat, and no micro bubbles.

Hi there, Im trying to build a low power energy efficient nano reef and might go the solana way but got some questions. Will probably use the solana T5 lighting or LED lighting.

How many watts does the return pump run on? how about the skimmer pump?

If upgrades are necessary to the return pump or the skimmer pump, which pumps are needed?

THX in advance

I love my Solana. 150w Sunpod, no mods.
FTS.jpg

So tell us how you got yours looking so nice with no mods!
I'm thinking when I purchase mine, I'm leaning towards the SundPod 150w, can you share some FTS including the lights?

I really like the white light (does it have a technical name?) and then the fact you can do the lunar lights with the Sunpod, the 24 hr system is very neat.

Micro bubbles

Micro bubbles

Folks I've had my tank setup going on 3 weeks now. And have been fighting the micro bubbles since. What is the fix if any on stock skimmer?? Don't believe its going to break in and just go away like current seems to believe. After 33 pages all have seemed to go to the tunze setup. Any help please?

I'm a new Solana owner too! So far, could not be happier. Wondering how many of you have experience with an Ecotech Vortech. Either mp20 or 40w. Thinking about getting one, but I will likely be keeping a couple softies. Too much?

I don't think it will be too much, but that all depends on how your rocks are laid out to break up the current and the location of the soft corals. I have an mp40 on mine and it's easy to get the flow dialed in just right - I can make my anemone/duncans' tentacles sway gently to and fro or I can make a full blown wave in the tank. I also like the wide flow pattern as well; when I stick my hand directly in front of the prop it doesn't feel like a narrow stream of water at all.

I plan on keeping soft corals and LPS in my solana and no sps.

How would the flow be If I used for return pump a maxijet 900 (half the size of the oem) and for in tank flow use 2 koralia #1 to bump up the water movement in tank?

Would it be too much flow? too little? remember I do NOT plan on keeping SPS corals, ONLY mushrooms, zoas, ricordeas and a couple of LPS and a rose bubble tip...

What's in the "setup"? I had just sand in mine for about 2 weeks and was still experiencing microbubbles - it wasn't until I added live rock and began to progress through my cycle that the skimmer slimed up and the microbubbles went away.

Solana owners

What are the actual dimensions of the display and the rear sump?

The whole tank is 20"x20"20" just wondering how many inches of the set up are for display and how many for filters...

I actually have the starphire one in the 20x20x20 dimensions.

I would love to purchase this one, but can't find one, it was a limited run, although they might run it again in the future, so I was told when I emailed and asked their customer service.

If anyone has found the 20" Starphire online somewhere please send me a link.

Thanks!
