THX man...

Ok so I am now a Solana owner as of last week. I love the tank and the aesthetics of it. In my other tank that I am downsizing from, I had one pump running everything. It ran the tank, the chiller, the Phosban reactor, UV, Carbon reactor, and Calcium reactor. Now I am not necessarily looking to run all that equipment on the Solana, but I would like to run the Chiller, UV, and a media reactor off of one pump. Can anyone recommend a pump that can do that and fit in the tank?

How about an external pump? I run my chiller on an Eheim--it sets right on top of the chiller. An Eheim 1250 or 1262 might work for the chiller and UV, you probably wouldn't want to run a media reactor on that same loop if your using phosphate media.

Those of you that switched the stock return pump: How did you get it out? Just pull it out of the tubing? Unscrew the bulkhead? I want to switch it, but am unsure how to go about doing it. Any help would be appreciated.

Does anyone know the other nano forum website? I am trying to look for something I saw on it the other day and can't remember the site. PM me the site if you know what I am talking about. Mods, if this isn't allowed, please remove.

Solana Owners,

What are some of the stock equipment one should consider upgrading after purchasing the aquarium, and why?

I've read a lot of you upgraded the skimmer, with some of you not having good luck with the stock one. And even then you had to mod that upgraded skimmer to fit in the back, is there some brands that will fit in the back without modding?

What power heads should be considered?

I asked a lot already about the lights, and might have a few questions to ask here later. I think I'm going with the SunPod 150w for now...the Pendant MH 150w (disco ball) is cool, but not my total favorite.

How would I do the external pump? With the phosphate media reactor, it would just be another T

It's just a closed loop. I used this JBJ Chiller Installation Kit to pull the water out of the tank and return it to the tank--it also gives you additional circulation. Basically the pump pulls water from the tank and then returns it to the tank through the chiller. If you need more of a description, let me know. I'm not sure if you could T off the return through a media reactor.

It's been awhile since I took mine out, but I'm pretty sure, it just pulled out.

Thank you Katrina, You would have to see my large setup now to understand what I meant. I actually have everything running off one pump. I have 3 T's one is going to the calcium reactor, one is going to my chiller, UV, and carbon reactor, and the last one is going through my phos reactor. All three return back to my sump which in the case of the Solana would be the skimmer chamber

Got mine set-up over the weekend.

Some notes-
Not loud at all IMO. Of course it replaced a 140 g that we had in the living room.

Skimmer- No micro-bubbles and its dialing in nicely.

Lights- 150w Sunpod.

We left everything "stock" but added a Koralia for extra flow. Used black, live sand and all the rock was pre-cured so hopefully it will be a short cycle.

Hey Steve--I guess I didn't undersatnd your question. I bet you know as much, or more about closed loops as I do. Let me know how you end up plumbing it.

Today I am joining the team of Solana owners!!!

I am getting it filled as soon as I can today with RODI water and am going to add salt. Any salt I should or should not use. I had Red Sea Coral Pro with my last tank. Just wondering if there is anything else out there?

Red Sea Pro good stuff. Also Tropic Marin, great results IME. Welcome to you too pprwngs!! It must be Solana Season

I have used IO, Reef Crystals and couldn't tell the difference. I have heard great things about Tropic Marin and D&D salts. Katrina, I appreciate your help. Thank you. I was just told that I will be getting a vortech md40w Friday. I can't wait to see the flow. I will no longer need a lot of flow through the back, so any pump I get should suffice so that it pushes a little water through the tank but most of the flow will go through the equipment. I will let you know how it goes, it may be a while but I will get it. I am going to try to get some pics loaded of my old setup in order to kind of show you what I was talking about. I will let you know when they are in the gallery.

I've had my Solana since Reef-a-Palooza back in October. Now I have finally been able to set it up...

Well I choose to stick with Coral Pro since I;ve had good results with it in the past. Has anyone used the Korallia Controllable units I was thinking of picking one up. I hope to be ordering that and a ACJr this Wednesday. Thanks for the welcome and I cant wait to see my tank mature...
