those of you with the tunze9002 skimmers how long did it take for you to break it in? I've had mine up and running for about 3 weeks now and it is still producing minimal skimmat. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong any advice for me?

Thanks
Ken

Hooked4life, I have a quiet one 2200. I was going to use it as an external pump for my chiller, but used the mj 1200 as an internal pump instead. Did you have to make any modifications to the pump and is the flow rate equivalent. Also, the outlet on the pump is 3/4" and I believe the return line is 1/2. Will the pump be o.k. with the back pressure.

Thanks.

I've got a 9002. It's been running about 3 weeks I'd say. It's kinda touchy as far as getting the air flow right. Mount it so the waterline is about 1/2" under the marked line and then play with the blue air knob every few days. Keep the neck clean and it should be fine.

The flow rate is higher than the stock pump (580gph). I have it connected to a 1/2" Sea Swirl--seems to be okay with the back pressure. It would have been tough to connect through the stock outlet because it sits so close to the top of the pump.

I am having major micro bubble issues with my Solana. The bubbles are pouring out of the outlet of my protein skimmer. I have taken the skimmer out and checked for airleaks etc. and nothing seemed to be leaking. Any suggestions on how I can get the bubbles tamed? It looks like there is a sandstorm in my tank but it is all bubbles!

pet solutions, i got mine a while back when they had them on sale for like 250 with free shipping but they are back to normal pricing.

That looks great!! First time I saw a black sand Solana that I dig. Great contrast with the ricordia. Your GSP in the rear left corner will look awesome when it grows up the back :eek1:.

Here is mine

I switched over from a 24 aquapod to this.

dsc_0002.jpg

Livestock:

2 Clowns
1 Female Canary Wrasse
1 Melanarus Coris Wrasse
1 Watchman Goby
1 Fire shrimp
1 Pistol Shrimp
Some crabs and nassarius snails
1 Clam
Various Mushrooms, Zoas and LPS corals.

Equipment:

34G solana tank and stand
250W sunpod
Tunze doc 9002 Skimmer
RK2 for control
Stock return
2 Koralia nano's (for now)
150w Jager heater.

Is that a flow deflector on the return nozzle? If so, doesn't it rotate 360 degrees and does it blow the sand underneath it up?

Thanks for the complements. I feed the dendro every day. I am going to build a little cave so he will not be in direct light.

So I've been trying to come up with a solution to carpet surfing utilizing the stock glass top which I've been having heat issues with - I have to keep my 4-fan unit on all the time and it's a little noisy for my taste. Anyway, my current idea involves something like this sketch that I threw together in paint

The "mesh" sort of material would be deer netting or some other UV resistant material of sorts I'm thinking, fastened to a thin frame made of some unobtrusive material I haven't thought of yet and and held down by small nylon nuts and bolts.

Would it be that expensive (i.e. what do you think it would cost) to get someone to cut a circle and drill four holes? Has anyone proposed such a thing before?

I used the glass lid to pattern a replacement out of 1/8" plexiglass and then cut a rectangle hole in the middle for the Sunpod HQI light and to let heat escape. There is still a couple of inches of plexiglass on each side and I have not had a problem yet with any fish jumping up on the plexiglass and the over the side. I have a two fan Azoo blowing towards the cutout openning and the temp always stays below 79.

I found this idea online, but don't recall where I saw it.

I just got the tunze 9002 with Stevie t skimmer cup. it took me about 2 days to dial in the skimmer. i have mine right at the water line mark and had to check and adjust continuously, but it is doing a great job now.
