Solana tank owner thread.

Unless you keep your house temp down you are probably going to have a heat issue. I have 2 azoo fans on mine without a top and it runs about 82 degrees. I made one of the mesh tops for it. My house is 80 degrees.

I too keep my house at 80 when I am out and 78 when home. The tank has seemed to settle in at 82 degrees. Is 82 ok? Are there any type of fans that can be aimed down in the sump area with still having the glass lid on? My son has a wolf eel in it so I have no choice but to keep the lid on.

The azoo fans have clips that bend i have not tried to see if it will bend down 90 degrees but i have mine pointed down a little to blow the top of the water, i got mine from dr foster smith. they have 2 fan and 4 fan models. I have always heard up to 83-84 was ok as long as everything was acclimated to it. So i try and keep it safe a little under i havent had mine above 82.5 and that is when i tried turning the air in the house up to 81 for the day so i put it back down to 80. hope that helps i am by no means an expert though.

You could do the mesh top mine has 1/4" holes i am going to replace the mesh with a thiner smaller diameter hole mesh. I read of someone using a lufa (sp) clear/white one and taking it apart to use.

Can you post a picture of what your mesh top looks like? Thank you for the info on the heating, I will go on Dr Fosters to have a look at those fans. I did have my lid cut and had a hinge put on about the 1/4 way back so I could have eay access into the front of the tank for feeding and all. Too difficult having to remove or slide that lid back each time. Was worried I was going to break it.

is the mesh an aluminum or plastic? When I get the fan hopefully it will bend over enought to blow into the sump area but if not I may try my hand at the mesh top.

It is a plastic mesh where i got this one was from an old cast net that i had in the garage. I know other have used the mesh from Home Depot that they sell to keep leaves out of ponds. I will try and remember to let you know how it goes with the sponge/lufa taken apart, hopeing for smaller diameter holes.

yes it will be cambarr..I cant wait til it comes out i have a crappy PC light as a temp light til the nova extreme comes out I did not want to risk heat from halides everyone is complaining about

I just got my solana as well, will be setting it up Juy 4th weekend. Looking to add a 250w Sunpod, so I will probably have the PC 50/50 light that i got with it up on ebay. I need to figure out how I want to aquascape it and what my cleanup crew will consist of. I hope this thread stays alive, love the tank.

i think it will be 6x18watt HO w/ Individual reflectors! thats 108 watts. now i know the rule of thumb is to not measure T-5 using watts per gallon but also keep in mind that the solana is 20" in depth witch is quite deep. so i am a bit skeptical. I may just stick with the 250w halide ???also bulb selection will be limited due to the bulb wattage and size another???

i wonder what the pricing on this will be???

Great thread.
I'm a Solana owner (3 months) and somewhat new to reef keeping. Is the Tunze Nano skimmer better than the stock skimmer that comes with the Solana?

Thanks

Thinking about using a Rio Hyperflow 12 as the return pum. It's about the same output as a Rio 2500, but uses less power.

anyone have any experience with these pumps?

Look what i did...

This is what you wanted to see all 3 chambers all modded hehe
