so the Carbon in the 2nd chamber on or off? I started off then put it on 1 month ago.. time for replacement? or out?
a. You can replace it. Just get a good grade. I would put some phosphate remover in there as well. Here are some examples of carbon and phosphate remover and bags to put them in.

media bag get the 4X6 size: http://www.petsolutions.com/E-Z-Close-Media-Bags+I34114600+C39.aspx

carbon: http://www.petsolutions.com/Reef-Carbon+I51900027+C10272.aspx

Phosphate remover: http://www.petsolutions.com/PhosBan+I48142182+C39.aspx

I have the jager heater, supposedly totally submersible . but It is not fully submerged , the guy at my local store told me not to do so, and the instructions say not to submerge more than the mark.
a. not familiar with that heater but if you have it in the water per instructions that should be fine.

Thanks ! I can get those @ my local store.

how many of those 4x6 bags of carbon and how many for phosban? how oftern I need to replace? phosban says it will last several months. carbon I guess once a month?

txs.

River3847. Just 1 bag for each will be plenty. The carbon isn't as important as the phosphate remover. You should get a phosphate test kit. This is the only way of determining when your phosphate remover is exhausted. You want to run as close to 0 phosphates as possible. The carbon can be changed every 6 weeks or so if you decide to use carbon. I don't really have an opinion on carbon. If you do frequent water changes then carbon probably would not be necessary. Are you using reverse osmosis water and a good grade salt?

Im using RO/DI since I started. tank has 2 months old and so far everything is perfect. zero amonia/nitrites/nitrates. ph , , temp and salt under normal levels.

I never checked phosphates ,ALK or calcium. I assume phosphates are high because algae builds quick in the glass.

will get some tests of ALK , calcium and phosphates tomorrow.

so far I did only 2 water changes , every 3-4 weeks. about 10%.

both fish and corals are good. just 1 clown jumped and died. I don't know how because I use the lid on.

thanks for your reply.

What skimmer could I buy to plumb outside of the tank? I need a better skimmer this one just isnt cutting it. Anyone have any good ideas?

thanks

I have my Solana up and running and starting the cycle.

I have the 150W Sunpod with the 6/6 LED's

Has anyone added the 20" Current Satellite with the 40W Dual Actinic 03/7100K Blue SunPaq PowerCompact Bulb instead of the stock bulb? The blue LED's do not provide any real lighting once the MH has shutdown.

There is plenty of room to put the extra fixture behind the Sunpod.

I'm using the new 24' NOVA EXTREME T5 HO light fixture with individual reflectors and it's perfect. No heat issues and my corals seem to get plenty of light. I would recommend this fixture but then again ..it's all up to your needs.

Tunze nano will be great and fit in the back / 'sump' area. You should try that out.

Here's the tank I have set up for my soon to be mother in law in her office, she loves it and I'm pretty happy with the outcome so far. I will say the skimmer is a little loud and it definitely sucks! I think I'll be picking up a Tunze for her this christmas.

Other than the skimmer I'm pretty happy with the tank, I think the pair of saddle backs I picked up for her are getting ready to spawn too!

Sorry for the Iphone picture...

Meh, I'm used to shots with my slr, so the iPhone really doesn't cut it.

She's the principal at a catholic school, hence the crosses. I'm really hoping the clowns start spawning so I can get another tank going in the science class to hatch the fry. I think it would be awesome for the kids.

Only real problem ive had with the tank was the male of the first pair of clowns decided to go carpet surfing so I had to pick up a new pair for her.

The kids love the tank too.

IT HAS BEEN DONEEEEE!!!!

The stock return pump was meshmodded and thrown on the skimmer. I have to figure out how to get the water level lower in the skimmer, but the thing kicks butt... alot of air and dead silent ! Pics will follow
