My New Tank
Well here is my Solana tank. I just got it set up Sunday so, nothing in it but live rock, a few bristle worms, and 1 red mushroom I got from the guy who sold me the live rock. I have about 28lbs of live rock and all the parts are stock right now. I do want to add a new pump, Sea Swirl, and a new light (the one that fits over the top with moon lights). I did add a Koralia #1 last night for flow. I'm not real sure how the skimmer works but, I see bubble going into the skimmer cup. Any comments on the skimmer or anything really are welcome.

I have had the Solana for about a week. I absolutely love it. I just downsized a large system to the Solana. I was going to put it in storage, but now I am getting rid of the system because of the Solana.
As far as bare bottom tanks, I really love them, but I am a coward with them. I also like Gobies and their personalities and they wouldn't be happy without the sand. But, each their own in this hobby.

I just listened to a podcast (reefcast - ep. 29a or b) that did an interview with Steve Weast. He has a sprinkle of sand for looks and replaces it at almost every water change to keep it looking pristine.
Now he has access to a lot of sand, cheap. And his tank was, I think, 6'x8'? and he only kept the sand at the front and in the visible areas.
I'm kinda liking that approach but I also really like all the sand dwelling critters and think that helps a lot with the long term health of the tank.
It's up in the air for these small footprint tanks for me on its value. Pros and cons.

I used a 15 lb bag of Fij Pink live sand and I'm very happy with that amount -- it varies between 1" to 2" depended on where it is in the tank.
I saw a used solana 34G on craigslist.com. Without any mod, just add two nano koralia powerheads.
The whole system (disco 150W mh light + tank + stand) is priced for 600 bucks, includes the live stock around 100 bucks, but I don't really need the corals, need to resell them.
Is this a good deal I should jump in?

As long as it's holding water and not scratched up, that's a great deal. You can probably make some money back from selling off the livestock and corals too.
