Biggie, I've owned the 72" Solaris LED since September. I'm growing SPS, LPS, Bklastos, Softies, Clams, Palyothas, and Zoos in a 135 gal. All are doing great. My unit came in with a lose crimped wire. Pat of PFO workrd me through a minor repair and it has worked flawlessly ever since. I'm very happy with the solaris.
Getting to your 300 gal. I personally think you may want to wait for the 400w version coming out this spring or summer (no definite date yet, nor has the price been determined). With creative use of the LR you might get by with one 72" unit. Raising the light above the tank gives wider coverage at the bottom.
Here's a link to my Solaris thread on Talking Reef Forum - Solaris LED light
Many of your questions will be answered there.

Ive read this previously but thanks for the heads up.
I was gonna do the 72" but decided to go with 2- 48's instead. As far as the coral placement thats a non issue. I plan to use shelf rock and platforms to rasie things to an exceptable light range. In retrospect its really no big deal to place things high.
I designed my tank to be BB and the high placement aids in flow of my C.L. system.
Ive been working on this tank for about 8 months now and Ive got it just about ready for H20. Lighting was an issue I had reservations about for sometime.
After last summer My bills started to creep up to unexceptable new highs. Since then Ive reached down deep into my wallet and made significant improvements in anticipation for further rate hikes.
This includes but is not limited to LED lighting throughout my entire home. The Solaris was just one more addition to the full frontal attack against money out the window. If it helps (and Im sure it will) then I have no problem with it. Sometimes you gotta spend to save. I accept this and I also plan to see some significant summer savings for my efforts.
Little known facts that certain energy savings items were tax deductible for 2006. I took this as another opportunity do make a differnce and some sales and savy shopping all helped the effort. At least I can sleep better knowing I did the best I could even if the savings dont reap the rewards Im hoping for.
FL has some opportunities for climate advantages during the winter months but the summer has no mercy. Humidity, heat, hurricanes, yesterday 8 killer tornados, power outages. All these things make reefing here a challenge more so than elsewhere. Each area has its challenges but Im not advocating peopel do what I did and just buy one by no means.
I happened to have allready commited myself to change and its just too late to look back now.
I hope Im a happy customer thats all I can say. We will soon find out.
