I have a screw loose, I mean yes I too had 1 screw that was out and floating around. I was worried about that as I read the same. But luckily all I did was take the 4 screws on the end off and tilted out the screw. It was a screw for a panel board that was in front. Now with that said the rest of it is well made, I think the workers just arent using the quality product with care... But I have had no trouble or operating issues.

ppht,
I hope your the majority. I just bought a 48" 20 minutes ago.
Im jumpin in feet first. What the hay its only money right.
Ill need another one somewhere down the road and when that time comes who knows what will be available.

Kinda need to go get drunk now and kill the bad feelings of parting with this much money in one fail swath of self indulgence.
Might as well I wont get it for 2 weeks. Least I can do is tie one on before the bank updates my account.

Looks like Spaghehti-O's for awhile. It's all good..: )

lol Go visit your Avatar girl, she can take your mind of it..
2 weeks what's up with that. I had mine in 2 days.

Biggie, I've owned the 72" Solaris LED since September. I'm growing SPS, LPS, Bklastos, Softies, Clams, Palyothas, and Zoos in a 135 gal. All are doing great. My unit came in with a lose crimped wire. Pat of PFO workrd me through a minor repair and it has worked flawlessly ever since. I'm very happy with the solaris.

Getting to your 300 gal. I personally think you may want to wait for the 400w version coming out this spring or summer (no definite date yet, nor has the price been determined). With creative use of the LR you might get by with one 72" unit. Raising the light above the tank gives wider coverage at the bottom.

Here's a link to my Solaris thread on Talking Reef Forum - Solaris LED light

Many of your questions will be answered there.

ppht, two weeks is when the next production run will begin shipping. Most of the time the productions sell out before another production run arrives.

Ive read this previously but thanks for the heads up.
I was gonna do the 72" but decided to go with 2- 48's instead. As far as the coral placement thats a non issue. I plan to use shelf rock and platforms to rasie things to an exceptable light range. In retrospect its really no big deal to place things high.
I designed my tank to be BB and the high placement aids in flow of my C.L. system.
Ive been working on this tank for about 8 months now and Ive got it just about ready for H20. Lighting was an issue I had reservations about for sometime.
After last summer My bills started to creep up to unexceptable new highs. Since then Ive reached down deep into my wallet and made significant improvements in anticipation for further rate hikes.
This includes but is not limited to LED lighting throughout my entire home. The Solaris was just one more addition to the full frontal attack against money out the window. If it helps (and Im sure it will) then I have no problem with it. Sometimes you gotta spend to save. I accept this and I also plan to see some significant summer savings for my efforts.

Little known facts that certain energy savings items were tax deductible for 2006. I took this as another opportunity do make a differnce and some sales and savy shopping all helped the effort. At least I can sleep better knowing I did the best I could even if the savings dont reap the rewards Im hoping for.
FL has some opportunities for climate advantages during the winter months but the summer has no mercy. Humidity, heat, hurricanes, yesterday 8 killer tornados, power outages. All these things make reefing here a challenge more so than elsewhere. Each area has its challenges but Im not advocating peopel do what I did and just buy one by no means.
I happened to have allready commited myself to change and its just too late to look back now.
I hope Im a happy customer thats all I can say. We will soon find out.

I would love to get these lights.I would do the same thing 2 x 48 for the tank I am planning to get but I can't afford the tank plus 5 grand plus restocking the tank.I have most of the equipemnt and I have several lps corals in my friends tank but I will more than likely buy t5 ho.If I had the money I would but a unit.To me it looks like a great unit for what it can do(low heat ,variant lighting options and controls)I think you will be very happy with this unit.I do see the very heavy pricetag as a negative to the average person who works a 10-12 hr day and doesn't make good money. This isn't a cheap hobby but you can have a nice tank for less.If the unit was $1000-$1500 I could manage but with bills to pay and a wife that isn't crazy about this hobby to begin with it doesn't make it any easier.I wish I could afford this system.I would have already owned it.I am a sucker for the latest tech

You will like light, and PFO, Pat, Carla and everybody are great to work with, if there is a problem they will make it right. My wife is getting ready to white balance the Nikon D70S and take some pics now I hope, my tank is a new set-up almost all sps.

I have been playing with the WB all day. Let me know what you find as a good setting. It has been driving me nuts... I have a D80 so they should be almost the same....

RC is awesome. I had bought a 1 HP Aquanetics chiller off here about a year ago in anticipation of this 300 Im building using high heat MH's. My plumbing is from the display thru the bottom 90 degrees thru a wall into a closet on the other side and then another 90 straight out into my garage where it dumps into a 90 gal sump (glass/old reef tank self drilled and reused) which is connected by 2-2" bulk heads to a 75 gal fuge which is also drilled on both ends connected at the farthest to twin Sequence Barracudas. One Cuda is a return the other feeds my MRC-6 Skimmer. The main return was to feed this 1 hp chiller and branch off to various other components of less flow requirments. IE: UV, Reactors, CA and alike. This is all theory at present til I get this light and see it in action. I just rhino lined my custom steel stand and its in limbo at the present til I get my starboard and some other plumbing parts. Long story short I bought the chiller here at RC had a blown compressor for $165 with controller and shipping included. I'm a design engineer by trade currently working for the airline industry designing security equipment for the U.S. airlines. We use alot of Stainless steel to shroud customer areas.
So I designed and fabricated some Stainless shrouding for my chiller to replace the flimsy cracked up plastic stuiff and replaced the compressor. Its gonna go up for sale shortly I predict. I spit shined the thing and made a work of art out of it.
Its just plain pretty to look at and a one of a kind work of art at that. Now I doubt Ill get to even use it.
To my wallets joy I might add! With all that said and I tend to get long winded, That chiller I put so much love into will easily pay for the other 48" when the time comes.

Now, for those who discount the Solaris for cost savings, What piece of equipment can you sell to put towards the price of new technology?
Seems the crowd steps back and makes an awe sound when I say that.
Sell those MH's and get into the now.
Man I should be a getting a cut of some salemans salary here and I dont even have the thing yet lol...

Amphibious, You get any wind lst night from those Nados?

Im in Lake Co. Clermont to be precise. or South lake county. I saw god!!
Juice is still on though. Buddy lost his boat in a tree upside down with trailer still attached.
Fricken twisters are amazing. Like a death ray from the sky. Magnetically attracked to trailer parks. Hope they dont put more back in there place to do the same in the future. Those parks should be outlawed down here. Just a nightmare waiting to happen IMO.

Just a little rain today. Nothing but a lot of wind last night.

We,re down In St Lucie County between Vero Beach and Ft Pierce. Glad your OK. Many near you are not.

Well weather man said 40% chance of rain today. To me thats means 60% chance it wont so I hauled it over to the lake and dropped a line in first thing this morning.
Soon as I set the trolling motor the rain started. Minnows were set free, still raining and pretty much disgusted.

Funny thing is as Im hauling tail back to the launch in the downpour fish are jumping all over the left and right of my wake lol.. Im like MAN!!! I can win.
Just one of those days i guess.... Guess Ill do some tank maintance since Im soaked anyhow lol.
Big game on tomorrow and I cant get a foot in the door at the Winn Dixie to save my life just to get a bag of pretzels. Just a total washed out day....

Call PFO's toll free number 800 577-9690 and enter ext 17. You should reach Carla. She'll get you to Pat the owner if he is in. Pat will take care of you.

Do it now.

Ok, Im good it was the ribbon cable to the display. Had come slightly loose in shipping and its fine.
I nearly freaked out in a major way when it wasnt working.

Now its working flawless. All I got to say is WOW. This thing is so cool.
Til you see it on your tank you cant imagine. I feel pretty good about it after 2 hours on Auto mode my corals look like they just love it. Time will tell but my Zoos are fully extended and the colors this light brings out in them is hypnotic to look at.

Ill have to play with the blue alitte bit to my taste but overall, Im very satisfied. Seems to be a high quality constructin one would expect.
One thing to note. I had to tear down an ellaborate hood, fans, and mess with powercables. Unpack the new light se tit up modify my canopy slightly. THis all took me about 2 1/2 hours.
During this time my corals went back into remission and extension of most of them had receeded into their sleep pattern.

I got the Solaris in place and let it fly and withing 20 min. they had all returned to full extension and then some.
This gave me some peace of mind as they excepted the new light almost immediately and seemed to more than like it too.
I have one Frog Spawn that hasnt been this active since ive owned it and it looked like it has bloomed. Now keep in mind this was only approx. 2 hrs. with the new light on too.
Time will tell the real story but Im have a solid feeling it will be a stellar addition.
