Some kind of anemone?

It was a hitchhiker on some live rock I bought. It's moved locations a few times. The stalk is maybe 1" when extended, but it spends 99% of the time flat against the rock.

It doesn't seem to have tentacles of any kind, but instead little 'buttons' on the surface.

When I feed it it eats well. (1/8th of a silverside) Grabs on and it goes right into the mouth in the center, so I'm assuming some kind of anemone?

(thumb for scale) It's maybe 1" across.

So I was googling various terms to try and describe it and I'm wondering now if it's a mushroom anemone. Hopefully someone with some experience on them can chime in.

That or Discosoma sp?

This is a higher res shot, it's plain but quite pretty. Like well done all white christmas lights.

google ricordia. That would be my vote. Probably pretty bleached out, so don't be surprised if the color changes with it getting decent light.

My question is regarding what you have crawling through your rock, seems to go from top to bottom with a bit sticking out the rock on either end

I say Ricordia as well

That would be a bristleworm, I consider them as an essential part of a clean up crew, they're are many who would disagree but I've never had any issues with them.

As someone else mentioned, bristle worms. In this case, those are two separate, much smaller worms just in different parts of the rock.

Since there are no fish in the tank yet, the worms feel free to crawl around as they please.

My guess would be ricordia that wasnt receiving any light.

The guy I got the rock from said he'd never seen it before. It's relocated twice now (so third new spot in the tank) and has stayed in this location for about a month now.

The thing is, with each location, it chooses a shady spot to attach to. There are plenty of locations that get more light, but it seems to like the option of retracting entirely into the shade when it wants to.

So far it's never attached itself to someplace where it can't completely hide in the shade.

After a long time in very poor (or no) lighting it may take quite some time until it is happy in a higher light area.

Interesting. I'll try to remember to post a photo in another few weeks, or if/when it starts to take on some color.

Will it acquire the algae it needs on its own, or is there something I should do to seed it?

OK, so a guy came over tonight to pick up some chaeto who has been in the reef game much longer than I have.

He said this is a mini maxi anemone that lost it's color (based on the foot he saw). It's just starting to get a hint of green to it, so I'll keep feeding it and see where it ends up in a month or two. If it gets too big it will need to find another home though it sounds like.

Just tossing in a photo of my RBT nem since I took one tonight for the guy who gave it to me.
