Some new videos of my reef.

Colors have come back after my PH spike several weeks ago. I almost threw in the towel as I lost several of my favorite hyacinthus frags and a few rare acros, but I decided to stick with it and I'm glad I did. Tank is looking pretty good. Colors aren't what they really appear as I took these videos with my digital camera and its not the best for that.
This video is under 4 250 watt DE 14K with actinic:

This one under T5 actinic only:

very beautiful indeed! That is unbelievable aquacsaping. What are the demensions? Do you still have the black tang thats in your avatar(sp/right word?.. lol) I love small black tangs. I helped my buddy unpack his x-mas island shipment and there was the smallest black tang ever in it (maybe like 1.5 inches) i wanted it sooo bad. Im thinking of bringing one home for my tank.

do you have as stocking list? You have some very nice fish in there.

Tank is 240 gallons, 4'x4'x2'.
I don't actually have a Black Tang, although it is my most desired fish of all! I'd give up every fish I own for a small black tang!!!
I'd love one the size you mentioned!
Thank you all for the compliments.

I felt like I was scuba diving , I vote this to be tank of the YEAR!
I think that is the best kind of compliment I could ask for. I really wanted this to look like a real reef and focused hard on the aquascaping for depth of field, crevises, caves, overhangs, etc., so that every angle of view allowed for a different reef appearance. I've had a few friends over that are avid scuba divers and they have told me the same thing. That is the beauty of a deep tank, which I've had a hard time demonstrating via photos. I'm glad that this video helps people see what I get to see everyday.
Of course, its no where near a 'Tank of the Year' quality, but I appreciate the praise. Give it a few years to mature and for me as a hobbyist to earn the credit of keeping it healthy and beautiful for an extended amount of time and then maybe it will be worthy of some real praise ;) .

how many lbs. of l.r. in there? from where?
You know, I'm not sure how much live rock is in there. Maybe around 250 to 300 pounds, give or take. There are mostly large pieces with a few medium/small pieces stacked on top to create the caves and overhangs.
The rock is predominately Kaelini (sp?) with some Marshal Island and Fiji scattered in there too.

Heeeeey glad to see your spirits are back up...

are you still thinking about the monster tank or did that dream fade away?

by the way the stand is up.. here is a pic....

i put a few softies in(doing well) and a few Anemones but they are not doing so hot:rolleyes: :(

Wow Gabriel, that looks so awesome!!!
I may have my Mojo back afterall ;) I was seriously considering going back to a softy only set up after that last PH fiasco.
Now that I'm kindof back into this, the thought of the 6'x6'x30" is back on the brain :)
Can you email me a few more pics of your set up? I'd love to add them to my portfolio.

Thanks for the compliment. Its also nice to hear that something I have done could be of inspiration. I know that my cube has sort of spawned a 'new cube era' so to speak with a few other hobbyists copying the design. I was very happy to see how my stand has become so popular as well, again with many others copying it. Of course, I'm also very happy to recreate it for others as well as I did for Bebo and Mike.
I'd certainly like to build more of them.
Just wait until I find the right space for my future 6'x6'x30" cube! That will be a fun tank!

You definitely inspired me when I came over and saw your tank. Enough so that I am having the same person build me a "Mini Me" version. It is 24" x 24" x 16".

do you worry about the fish Compatibility?? and your tank is very nice to man..you did one hella good job on it.. =D
I'm not sure what you mean by 'compatibility'? If you mean aggressiveness, then no. There is only mild and very intermittant aggression between the two yellow tangs, but otherwise, all the fish are cohabitating very well.
I will be moving out one of the yellow tangs soon though to make room for a small regal angel.
Thanks for the compliments.

Really? Have you seen 'Iwan's' tank, or all the others that are in the 'idol' tank thread? There are so many nicer and more mature tanks than mine. But, I really appreciate that compliment though.
Thanks very much.
The Imperator is a model SPS citizen. He has munched on a few of my zoanthids, but I actually wanted them thinned out as they were encroaching on some of the SPS, so he is doing me a favor. He has not nipped at any of the stonies as far as I can tell.
He's a great fish with a definate personality.
