Some skimmer advice

Hello gents and ladies,

I come with some questions regarding skimmers. Currently I am using an Eshopps 100psk in sump skimmer. One of my questions are, at what level do you set your water? I keep mine relatively low because at night when the lights go off and the fuge light goes on, the skimmer starts skimming like crazy. Not entirely sure why. However, as of late the skimmer has been skimming enough foam that it comes out the vent holes at the top and drains back into the sump creating a foam layer. I am going to be adjusting my skimmer to even lower now to see how that adjusts.

My other question, I would like to turn off my return pump for feeding, but when doing this the sump level rises thus raising the water level in the skimmer, which, you probably guessed it, causes it to overflow. What's the best way to address this?

The display tank is a 72g bow front. Sump/fuge is a eshopps 100rs. I have a check valve on the return line to prevent back flow but the overflow keeps going until the tank levels off.

Any help/suggestions is greatly appreciated!

That tank has a LOT of amino acids to deal with. I have the 150 in a 105 gallon, and it behaved that way at first. I happened to have a very heavy glass object that I set atop the cup lid to keep it from belching right off, but sheesh! it only did that as it was catching up with a neglected bioload, and now, after a week, has greatly calmed down. I say just keep skimming this way and emptying the cup and cleaning the walls and hope it settles. If it's not new to the tank, that's going to be another issue.

I don't turn off pumps for feeding: I figure my fish need the exercise.

Haha well in my case I moved from a 29 to a 72. Skimmer has been off and on. My thoughts are since I started adding reefroids again that's probably where I'm getting the skimmate from.

And yea disregard that nasty skimmer wall. That was an algae build up when I ran a different light. I actually just cleaned that immediately after the picture.. Haha

I did end up toning down my skimmer because I am looking for a drier skimmate. Let's give that a day or two and see how it goes.
