Was looking on craiglist and seen this..

http://binghamton.craigslist.org/for/1109312330.html is this someone from here?

Seems like a great deal for someone like me who has nothing yet? But my question is they are looking for someone who knows what there doing :o . That might be a big jump for a noob like me. Would hate to kill everything in the tank... :( But still I think a nice deal..

You know what you are doing. In fact, you know the most important thing. That is, ask for help here not your local fish store.

need to check the condition of things like the pumps, lights and other higher priced items. Don't want to have to replace a lot of bigger items right away.

You could try to sell or trade any fish or coral you don't want for things you do want.

Find a someone experienced to go with you to look it over. Like having your machanic look over a used car.

sounds like dave has you pointed in the right direction! i just sold a rr 125 with the tank stand sump and canopy for almost the same price so its def a steal!

I wouldn't pass up an exceptional deal like that if I were in the market. Even if everything did die (which I'm sure it won't) you'd still be way ahead of the game.

Would have to find someone from here that could go with me as I have no clue what is good and what isn't. Was hoping whoever is selling this was from here. The main problem I see with this for me is I don't even have my RO/DI unit laid in yet. :eek2: Unless I could bucket his water somehow for now. Which would probably be better anyways right?

Sent him a email waiting to hear back now...

if you need someone to go with you lmk i might be able to go sometime! i wanna come out that way to get some stuff from jerry anyway

Can't say it any better. You've obviously been patient and doing your homework. You've got all the back up you need right here as far as advice. It also would be 24hr service. Starting with a larger tank will give you more leeway as far as dealing with potential problems.

It might seem like a lot to take on, but it'd probably be easier than setting up a 55. If you've got the room, you might wanna jump on it. I'm sure the seller will offer plenty of advice as well.

Sounds like a good deal to me. You should just go for it. A 125 with stand is $700 new. Like drbronx said even if everything dies, which it most likely won't, it is still a good deal. Just the equipment is probably worth 3 times what the person is asking. Maybe you can ask for a few few photos and post them or get a list of the equipment and post it for more advise.

Neoz, I live in Endwell and would be willing to go with you. Thanks to others on the forum I think I have a pretty good idea what to look for.

He sent me a email to come look at it. Just have to arrange the time. I'm thinking Wednesday late afternoon early evening? pimpinitup or truebeliever71. That work for you? I'll pm you my cell number..

Guys thanks for all the help. Really couldn't do this without all your help... Waiting for a email with the list of actually parts. Like what kind of skimmer etc. It is a RR ready glass tank with stand. ..Pms coming..

If I were you, I'd get that RO/DI set up. The one thing you'll need after a tank move is lots of water for water changes. If you can get some saved up, I think it will be one of your primary weapons towards anything the system might throw at you, during or after a move.

We're finally getting a RO\DI system... but up til now I've been getting RO\DI water at either the Giant or Walmart from the Culligan machines. The Vestal Walmart seems to keep their machine better serviced than any of the Giants. Both Giant and Walmart allow you use non-Culligan water bottles.

Yes I went and looked at it. Very nice gentleman. Overall the tank was well worth it from what I could tell. Course that coming from me dosen't hold a lot of water ;)

Well worth what he was asking for it. Probably going to hit myself for not getting it. :o

I guess in the end I'm just nervous about jumping into a full setup that large with everything going. Fish corals etc. I really wouldn't be able to take my time setting the tank up how I want. You know learn slowly. I like to take my time and really learn. Not have someone do it all for me ;). I don't learn anything like that.

Instead I would spend the entire day moving the tank, setting it up quick so the fish and corals weren't hurt or die. No room for error. Hell I don't even know how to set a sump and skimmer up yet.. :D Let alone testing the water with what and for what? I have so much more to learn and just think doing it slowly and maybe a smaller tank would be better. I just don't know.....

dude,
if you really want it and know you will kick yourself for not getting it, and you have the cash, i have a truck. also there are plenty of people who would help out...for the right price ;)

First let me say "I am not trying talk you into buying this tank." But if you like the tank don't let the livestock hold you back. You could still take your time with the tank.

If you are looking for a tank that size 125g with the type of equipment that is included it may be worth it just for the equipment.

The rock could be kept in a rubbermaid tub while you take you time to set things up.

You could try to trade the livestock for other equipment or trade in some of the livestock at a LFS for credit. I just ordered some fish from Finnyas Fins so I don't have room for anything big. But if you know what fish he has you could try to post something here to see if anyone is interested. If the person selling is not involved with the STRS or URS he may have corals that haven't propagated their way through the clubs and could be new to many around here. Also, someone who just set up a tank may be interested in the livestock but not the equipment.

The seller may want to sell everything together but you might be able to do the legwork to get rid of the livestock. Just think, if you do the work to sell or trade the livestock for $250-300 or more you could be getting all the equipment for $500-$550 or even less.

Another option is to offer livestock to anyone who is ready, willing, and able to help move a 125g tank and all the supplies. Many here, including myself, would help (if available) WITHOUT the incentive. But a little gratuity is always appreciated.

Last year when I was upgrading I couldn't find a good deal on anything used so I bought all new. Spent about $2000 on tank, stand, equipment, lights, live rock and that is for a 90g.

You probably don't want to be a pest to the seller and keep dropping in with different people but if 2-3 of us that might be interested in the corals could go with you we might be able to claim all the livestock.

Just a few thoughts if you serious about a 125g. Make post here and see what interest there is.
