I introduced a powder blue tang into my system 3 days ago and since hasnt been eating all that much. The LFS guy said he was eating nori just fine. Since I introduced him he has only picked at the rocks & nibbled at some nori but doesnt seem all that interested. He looks at eating brine shrimp but doesnt budge. The first 2 days he seemed to be settling in but Im affraid he looks like he is getting weak. There is nothing else in the tank with him accept 3 chromis. He just keeps swiming around in and out of the rocks and doesnt appear very active. :sad1:

Powder blues can be a fragile tang when first introduced. Just keep trying to feed him nori, and hope that he starts to eat brine. he'll get some food from picking at the rocks to hopefully sustain him. In my experience they do need a decent amount of flow to keep happy, as well as lots of swim space. what size tank is he in?

His in a 4 x 2 x 2 tank. He is only about 3-4 inches long. I have been keeping marine fish for 3 years now so I thought I would be able to take care of this little guy. All other tangs I have kept like sailfins and yellow tang all ate with no fuss. I have just put 2 x mp40's on the system so I assume there is ample flow.

Fish can go weeks without eating before they are in trouble, 3 days is nothing to worry about. Did you quarantine this fish? I hope you have plans to get a bigger tank. BTW, what happened to the other tangs?

I agree that you don't need to worry about it not eating until you get deep into the second week if it was healthy when it arrived.

Try rubberbanding the nori to a small piece of rock as fish sometimes are hesitant to eat something clipped to the wall of the aquarium. You also can try soaking the nori, brine and other foods in garlic extract as that sometimes seems to stimulate feeding.

Mine didn't eat anything for 4-5 days. i left him alone, just feed as usual. He is doing great not. Eats everything in sight. Let him do his thing. don't worry. Your stressing him out!
