Hi all

I have my 100 gal tank up and running and parameters are below.

Sal 1.026
Amm 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
Calc 500
Dkh 6 I am raising it now
Fe 0

I have in my tank
6 red leg hermit 6 blue leg hermit, 4 nassarius snail 6 turbo snails, 2 bangai cardinals 1 fire fish 1 sail fun tang a Kenya tree and gsp's everything is doing well except the gsp which is retracted nearly all the time and when the heads are out they have missing arms. I have tried to catch a culprit in the act but haven't seen anything hermits climb on it a lot but never seen them eating it. I would really appreciate some help. I have only noticed this the last couple of days before that the polyps where open all the time and looking well I'm not sure what has happened the last couple of days but I would like to take action now before it's too late to reverse

Thanks

I used live rock to set up tank so could have a hitchhiker I've already had a few crabs and a mantis shrimp that snuck in

That low alk also isn't going to help. Get that at least to 7.9, and if it won't stay up, check your magnesium levels, which should be at least 1300.

Green star ordinarily is a very prolific grower, and if it's losing ground, water as well as a predator is one possible issue.

I am raising the alk at the moment just using bicarbonate of soda only started yesterday when I tested it and realised it had fallen low. It does seem to drop quite fast in the tank il get it right and it will fall again quite fast

Read the sticky on Dirt Simple Chemistry over in Reef Discussion. That may explain why your alk may be a constant problem and how to keep it steady.
