i had a similar problem a few months back and couldnt understand as params were prefect and stable. then when i finally did my over due tank maintenance of cleaning my pumps i had found one of my skimmer pumps had blown and rusted and this was the cause. after several weeks of reg WC and no rust source in the tank things started getting better. I also ran double dosage of carbon for a month.

Just curious, but has anyone measured thier pH at night to see if its dipping too low? I've had the same problem on and off or several years now and I typically attribute it to tank pH going below 7.8 although I'm not 100% sure.

That's interesting, Ryan. That is another suggestion I received, to check all the pumps and pipes for something amiss. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Jabel, in my tank I have a lot of surface agitation, plus a reverse light cycle on refugium, plus we keep a window in the room cracked open so I don't think ph is an issue.

I do the same thing to my tank and my pH dips low on occassion. You should check and see. You might be suprised.

The rust issue is kind of interesting this started for me right after I re-plumbed my return and used type of pvc glue I never used before. I've been running poly filter and carbon

Okay, I just dug out the hanna meter and retested my PO4...it has been about 3 months since I last tested. Last time it came out at .09 (with .04 error rate). THis time it came out at .15 !:eek1: Yikes. I thought about it and realized that my zeovit media is exhausted because I let too much time go by before replacing it. And I haven't been using PO4 absorber because zeovit is supposed to take care of that (if you do it properly).

Plus I've only been changing out 25-30% of total water volume each month.

So...have replaced media, will increase water changes to 50% per month (goal).

I have become a bad reef mother *hangs head in shame*

P.S. The sediment filter on my RO/DI filter was also exhausted and the water in the container after I removed the filter was red-brown opaque. DI resin looked okay. The sediment filter is always the first one to kick the bucket at my house. After I changed this filter and ran the system with the TDS meter on, it showed 0 in, 0 out.

Canarygirl or Reeftek are yall still around? Does anyone have more information about the reaction between aptaisas causing problems?
