something picking at squamosa

i've had my squamosa for a week and a half now. from last monday to saturday it was fine. sunday morning it wasn't opening as much. then i noticed something is taking small bites out all around the mantle edge. it is now opening a little more like normal now though.
tank contents (known) 10 chromis, gemetric hawkfish, 2 gobys, blenny, banded coral shrimp, scarlet cleaner shrimp, reef eel, lots of blue legged hermits.
the only thing i could think of would be the hermits. i've since cut the top and bottom off a 2l soda bottle and put it around the clam to keep any hermits out.

eel - uropterygius concolor bites too small to be him.
blenny not sure. she's about 2 and a half inches. plain in colour some spotting but no real colour besides shades of brown. usually hide in holes in the reefs here.

no digital camera yet. ordered one on sunday. it's possible it could be from either clinidae or blenniidae. the clam is opening fully now. should i catch out the blenny for now anyway.

i would cut the top off a clear 2L bottle, take the cap off and drill some holes for flow and place it over the clam. if the clam opens up and stays open then you know for sure something is picking at it
