Tonight after the lights had been off awhile I noticed that my big crocea hadn't closed up very much...I started to worry so I tried to tease him into closing up..which he didn't...so now I was really worried...then I pulled im out and he still didn't close..now I'm REALLY worried that I have a dying/dead clam, but I noticed his filters moving through his excurrent siphon so I looked around and noticed that his hinge area looked weird...turns out that reef critters had calcified all over the area and he literaly couldn't close up...chisled the crap off and he snapped shut, grateful for the favor no doubt () : )
Hopefully he'll be good as new...I turned the lights on to see if he'd come back out and he did...I've never seen him retracted for more than 30 seconds as long as the lights are on () : )
Anyway...yet another thing to keep an eye out for with your clams () : )
Cheers,
