something wierd... what is it?

It was about the size of a quarter, round, seemed like the top was soft, not a shell like a limpet, it definately didn't like light, I tried to shine the flashlight on it to get a better pic and it retreated under the rockwork fairly quickly. It looked like a brown mobile hairy shroom to me. What is it?

Yeah, thats a huge bristle worm next to it.

Abalone have shells, don't they? It appeared soft with no shell.

From what I can see of it, it looks like a chiton. Is the whole thing the size of a quarter, or just the end? If it's a Cryptoplax, and it looks like it is, it should be several times longer than it is wide. Some of the other species are more nearly round, though. It shouldn't really be soft, but should be leathery.
