I noticed you are using Reef Crystals salt I was wondering if the high alk in the mix might be causing a problem with a low nutrient enviroment, as mentioned in the Zeo forums.

Thanks

Kevin

Sonny- Sorry I sure you stated this more than once. What is the total water volume of your tank and sump ect.

Sonny,

Just curious what your REDOX levels are on your tank. Have you tried measuring it? I would think with all the bacteria in your tank, you will have good REDOX values.

I have been dosing vodka and mb7 for 3 weeks now and my REDOX levels have been climbing up even without pumping ozone. My logs shows me that I started at about 250 mv before dosing, and now, 3 weeks after, it is now at 306 mv. I am so happy since it has reached the desirable levels (300 mv - 350 mv) even without using ozone. I hope it keeps climbing up.

Thanks.

Hello,

I do not have a redox meter so I dont know what my redox is. Based on how clean my system is I would say that it is pretty high, but I can confirm that.

Hi Sonny,

are you still dosing 14drops of MB7 daily? Does it come with a dropper? so your dosing approx 1ml per day? what size bottle do you buy and how long do you think that would last you?

thanks

Hello,

Yes I am still dosing 14 drops a day. The bottle is the medium size I believe and doesn't come with a dropper but it does have a small opening, making it easy to drip the soultion into the tank.

I really haven't been keeping track of how long it lasts but I would say a few months maybe.

Hello,

I do water changes only once a month so the increased ALK of RC isnt really an issue with my system.

Hello,

I would say that the total system volume is about 140-150gl.

sunny,
why not dose the vodka continuously in 1 part of our 2-part dosing?

Is that possible? I dont know much about chemistry but I would be afraid that the vodka would have a negative effect on the two part and vice versa.

Sonny - I have started to get some pale colors in my tank. I am feeding 2-3 times a day. You think it maybe time to start dosing AA's? I am only at 1 month of dosing both MB7/vodka but I have a much smaller system.

If your corals are getting too light then it may be a good time to slowly start up the AA's. Start with only 1/4 the recommended dose and slowly work your way up.

Did the cloudiness appear when you started dosing MB7 or was it present before? How are your parameters?

RIP Rocky. :sad1:

The cloudiness started I guess when Rocky passed away and I didnt catch it in time to remove him, so he sorta just got eaten by the clean up crew. The cloudiness started 4 days before I started dosing MB7. I am now on day 6 of dosing 3.5 capfulls and cloudiness is still heavy. It looked like it cleared up on day 1 and then got cloudy again. My nitrates are running around 20. All other tests should be fine. 1.025-26 SG / 79 degrees temp.

I added 10 gallons new water then took out 15 gallons. I then took out 12 more gallons and replaced it with 12. Finally I took out another 10 or so gallons and refilled the sump back up with around 10 gallons of water. I did that this morning at 4am. The puppy woke me up and I couldnt get back to sleep. I managed to clean some of the sand and detritus with my new gravel vac, that kinda stinks.. but it works.

I have to do a full set of tests tonight. My skimmer is churning up some major nasties, I cleaned it this morning. Still cloudy after water change with 1.0264 SG (my new target range) I just calibrated my refractometer with pinpoint salinity calibration fluid. I was .001-.0015 off with RO/DI water.

Hey Sonny,
How do you acclimate your SPS when you get them from a tank running MHs(if you do anything)? And do you keep your corals on the plugs or take them off?

Thanks,
Alex

Sonny, just a quick question, what saltmix do you use?

He uses Reef Crystals

Let me know what your tests results are when you get a chance. When people mention that they have cloudy water water two things come to mind, excess bacteria or an imbalance in CA/ALK(WAY too much CA!)

Hello,

Other then dipping the corals in TMPCC and Interceptor I have no special procedures when introducing new corals. For the most part, I do keep the corals attached to the plugs.

Sonny,
I have been following your thread for a few weeks now and taken time to read through the various adjustments you have made to your bacteria and nutrient dosing schedules. In doing so, I have been comparing to what I have been doing with the Polyp Lab System. It is similar to your bacteria and carbon source method. What I had noticed was your addition of Iodine. So, 5 days ago, I began adding one drop of Kent Marine Lugol's.

Is it possible that the corals would react and begin to show color intensification in just five days of adding this additional element? Both my wife and I feel like the purple on our Validia has greatly intensified and that the color of our digitatas has also improved. Placebo? Do you feel like you can see changes in color color happen in that short a period of time?

Thanks for your comments.

Hello :D

A few months ago I stopped the dosing of Lugol's solution in order to see what would happen to my corals. Slowly, purple and blue corals began to fade in intensity. After less then a week of dosing Lugol's again my purples and blues once again intensified in color.

So yes, I believe that in a short span of a time your corals could have intensified in color. ;)

Well, then I appreciate you handing the key to unlock the color of my SPS. I had gotten great improvement in my system using PolyLab, but I was missing the color enhancement. I look forward to learning as we go with these bacteria driven systems.

Thanks,
Mike M

I'm not familiar with the Polyp Lab System. Would you mind giving a brief description on what it is, or maybe start a new thread about it? Thanks.
