Sunny, What about Zeovit's PIF to bring out the blues?

That would work for bringing out your blues but you could get Kent's Lugols Solution for more then half the price of the Zeo brand. ;)

hi sunnyx

i never use MB7 & vodka

how many drop per day of MB7 ??

how many ml vodka per day ???
my tank no 3 = 0 - 0.2 sailfert tester
not use vodka ??

my tank water volume is 50g ( 200 l )

thanks reply :p

SunnyX: What do you think about using MB7 in the rock cooking tubs? When the rock is done cooking you will know how? Fresh smell? No silt/detritus coming off anymore?

Hi Sonny, just wanted to say thanks for your guidance. Po4 went from .11 to .05 in 4 weeks and probably still dropping. Tank starting to look better. YOU DA MAN!!

Hello,

For the mB7 you would need to follow the dosage on the bottle and then +/- from there. For the vodka, just follow the dosing charts I posted on thee previous page.

Do you currently have algae and SPS coloration issues? Why do you want to run a bacteria driven system?

Hello,

I used MB7 to help cook my rocks before I transferred them over to the new tank.

Once the rocks stop shedding off detritus you should be getting pretty close to the end of cooking them. It took me about a month before the rocks were looking good again and waste free. You will have to shake them everyday in order to get as much waste as possible out of them.

You may want to take a turkey baster and max-jet put and blow off as much waste as possible.

Start out with the high nutrient dosage as instructed on the bottle for the first two weeks. After the two weeks switch over to the low dosage of MB7 and then start up vodka based on the chart.

After a month of so you should start to see the algae die off, and your corals start to color up.

Remove the ROWA and when you start up with the bacteria.

Start slowly and let us know how it works out for you.

He doesn't want to show us! Is it the MH sunny:D

Well, let me just add some sand and move some things around before I post up pictures. Its really nothing special, just a tank where I place extra corals and frags.

Sonny, I bought these SPS frags back in March. Green Blasto's, Pavona, Birdsnest, A few Acros and a Few Monti Caps and Zoas. I think we bought 14 various frags for our starter frag set for 110$.. It was a great starter package, A friend of mine owns his own coral business. http://altisreef.com/ we went out to his house and saw his 25,000 gallon system. It was definitely a sight to behold. So anyways my question is:

I bought these frags that consist of a few different Acroporas and some other corals. This applies to any coral that is mounted on a 'plug' or a rose holder cap. I have a few of these corals that are on these plugs, also an ORA Orange Digi. This applies to the ORA black plugs also. I have noticed that any frags that are left on these 'plugs' grow horribly slow in my system. What do you recommend I do? Ill give you an example. I have a beautiful little Green acropora that was mounted on a rose holder cap. It was 1/4 inch frag and had only encrusted a little bit on the plastic cap. I had him attach the cap to his small home-made rubble frag base. His 'rubble base plugs' are basically a little mound of crushed coral glued together in a small mound to make a frag disc. Looks like an overgrown Hershey kiss. So this rose plug is attached with super glue to the Hershey kiss plug. I have noticed that this Acropora encrusted the whole rose cap and is just barely starting to encrust onto the rubble plug. That is 5 months worth of growth. The frag itself is only a half inch tall, with a few different sprouts. The encrusted base also has tiny sprouts with great polyp extension. I have never had a problem with Polyp extension, it has always been out during the daytime and long. On all corals polyp extension is sofar so good. The baby Acropora seems to be trying to encrust as much as it can before it grows upward.

With these frags, should I break them all off of the plugs (including the ORA Digi) and re-attach them to an actual rubble piece that will be the final resting base of the colony? I should have done something along time ago, but I wanted them to grow a little before I made any drastic changes. What would you do? These frags are staying tiny and I believe that because they are limited space to encrust, they will not grow bushier and taller. What do you think? I'm open for opinions from anyone.

Btw, since following your thread, I have also started dosing Lugols 1 drop a day into my sump! Colors are beautiful (but have not noticed any changes yet) on the corals but my lighting is crap and my flow is also kind of bad. I need a Vortech Mp40w and a decent t5 lighting fixture and I think my tank will finally take off. Growth has been extremely slow in my tank but coloration has been great in my opinion. We can take some pictures and maybe you can critique the system for me? Every time Im 'playing' with my tank and changing something, I tell Katie about your system and show her pictures.. she was like.. "Maybe we can stop over his house and see his tank someday? It would be nice to make another friend. He certainly has allot of talent!" I replied.. maybe someday lol Michigan is kind of far:)

Thanks Sonny, personally I think your tank and Mcliffy2's tank are my favorite t5 driven systems and the benchmark I hope to obtain someday!

<--- Hopeful TOTM someday!

Hi sonny,

Do you have a link or anymore info about baking rock? Im upgrading my tank soon and have a few apstasia around. I kill them off monthly. I'm wandering if i should just get new rock as i dont want any apstasia in my new tank. but then I dont want to start the cycle again as my tank is 3 years old and fully establish with 100's of SPS.

thanks

Aaron

Hello and thank you :D

Since you have red cotton/cyano algae I would dose MB7(Brightwell Microbacter7) for two weeks prior to dosing vodka. If you start up vodka alone now you will be feeding the red cotton.

I would dose the medium dosage as instructed on the bottle. As for the vodka, be sure to follow the instructions in this article: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-08/nftt/index.php

Hello Sunny,
I just got some Microbacter7. Currently I am running carbon in a mesh bag in the sump. Should I remove the bag during the first to weeks while I introduce the Microbacter7.
Thanks

Hello,

I have noticed something similar with some of my frags in the past. What I did to offset the encrusting issue was to dill small holes into the live rock with a screw driver and place the frag plug into it. I tried to get the base of the coral and flush as possible with the rockwork.

If what I listed above is not possible you could simply remove the coral off of its current plug and glue it to some rubble rock. I have moved corals countless times firm plugs onto rubble with no harmful effects.

Oh, you and Katie are welcome to stop by if you are ever in the area. :D

Sonny
