Just got my MB7 and BioFuel. I've run the Elos purist line and was happy with results, but the price and number of additives had me looking at the Brightwell product. Well, I've got them now. I'll also be running 4-5 liters of Filtra M in a reactor when running MB7 and BF.

That is a big bucket of bacteria. Could you imagine spilling all that on your carpet...haha..it would stink so bad you'd have to burn the house down

Great looking tank. Ive slowly read through the entire thread over the last week and I'm really impressed by both your system and the amount of effort you put in to helping out fellow reefers. I had a few things I wanted to ask your opinon on. First off I see that you run Eheim water pumps submerged in your sump. Do you like them, and why did you decide on running them submerged? Is it just for ease of setup or does it cut down on noise. The reason I ask is because I'm trying to decide on a new return pump. My panworld is so loud that I would like something quieter. Secondly I know you dose everything manually but had expressed interest in maybe setting up a top off for your two part and maybe vodka. Have you looked at any of the different dosing pumps and if so which ones would you recommend? Finally the vortech pumps. I know you had a problem with your first one but they repaired it and sent it back to you. Have you had any other problems with it? How about the noise, as you can tell I'm trying to quiet things down and every little bit helps. Everyone says they make amazing flow but some people complain that they are much louder than the Tunze pumps.

Thanks for all your efforts!

Taylor

Just to chime in on the doser... I did a lot of research before I made my choice.. The GHL Profilux stand-alone doser with 4 pumps won the battle for me.. It's a very easy to program, high quality unit that will continue with its programmed settings after power is restored from an outage.. and you can dose down to 1ml/day. You can dose it all at a set time or dose the programed amount over a 24hour period. Very cool device.

They are considered 'Store Use' size, and yes they are about 5 gallons each. When you have nearly 800 gallons of water you're going to go through a ton. Especially with the initial doses.

I had actually thought about dosing lugols how much do you think i should dose i have a 120 gallon with a 50 gallon sump. Im going to start up AA's this week and i have been feeding my fish like 4 times a day.

Thanks for the advice, I started another thread just about the dosing pump and have had a few people say they are using them with success. Where did you purchase your pump from. I've actually looked at those but none of the online vendors i usually use have them.

I can not get rid of this "peach fuzz" growth. So, I thinking for stopping MB7 and Vodka dosing for 1-2 weeks to see if that helps. If I stop for that period of time, when and if I start up again, do I have to start MB7 at the High Nutrient dosage?

Vodka could be the cause. I would stay dosing mb7 but stop vodka for a few weeks until it disappears.

Do you have any snails? I've seen them clean a frag plug of the fuzz in a few minutes. Not going to solve the problem but it could help.

I have Astrea, Cerith and Nassarius snails. The Astrea snails are all over the Live Rock, but don't clean it up. I've heard that Nerite Snails might help.

All of my cerith snails have been eaten by my 10 or so rogue hermits lol, they are starting to eat all of my astrea snails too! Whats up with these hermits? boo hermits boo.

please guys help me understand how this works MB7 is for a high nutrient system and vodka is suppose to bring down phosphate and nitrates and as far as i know the vodka should bring down the nutrient system i don't get it please can someone explain it to me.

Dosing the vodka by itself can also promote the growth of cyano algae. By boosting the bacteria population with the MB7 first, you lower the chances of the cyano outcompeting the bacteria for food (the vodka).

MB7 is not used to make the system high nutrient, it is used in conjunction with the vodka to make a high-nutrient system, low nutrient. supposedly.
