Sunny I noticed you said you run your skimmer 24/7, but you also said you just follow the instructions on the MB&. The instructions say to turn the skimmer off for 4 hours after use. Can you elaborate on this for me?

LMAO...Happy Thanksgiving. Maybe afterwards you can put a pic of the new progress up?

Soon, Perhaps even today. :p

lol are you guys playing xbox live? if so add me too BonziBuddi

Will do. My tag is SONNY M63

My reef looks like Sh!T at the moment. Since the house move i havent re-aquascaped. I'm in the process of setting up my new 62x33x20. once that is ready i'll just move everything over. got my ATB pumps, vortechs, tunze, 10 bulb ATI PM and ATB skimmer all sitting there gathering dust :lol2:

Still cant decide if I get all new Rock and start a the new tank from scratch or just move all the rock over to the new one. the only problem is I get a few apstasia which is easy enough to keep under control. If i went all new rock i still have the chance of it coming from coral or new rock. mmmmmm. cant decide.

Im going to try the sonny vodka/mb7 method. I manged to smuggle some Mb7 illegally into australia:lmao:

keep up the good work

snaz

Starting up a new tank is always tricky but I would move the rock over instead of getting new rock. Good luck!

ok i missed that!!

The Photos are so awesome!!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of u guys!

Flo

Thank you! :D

Hey congrats on the R2R TOTM! I'm excited to see the new layout!

Thanks! Pics will be up soon.

I'm thinking of starting the MB7, vodka dosing and was wondering if I have a big enough skimmer to do the job. I have 75 gallon tank about 60 gallons net and I have no sump, I have an Atb multi hang on sikmmer, will this be alright to start dosing vodka? If not what would be a good skimmer I could use since I do not have sump? thanks

Thats a tough one. Hang on the back skimmers are hit or miss. I am not too familiar with the skimmer you are describing but ATB does make some quality products. Perhaps someone familiar with hang on skimmers can comment here.

Very beautiful aquarium

Thanks! :D
Thanks for the answer.
And you together change all lamps in 10-12 months,
Because lamps burn different time, 2 lamps - 2 hours, 3 - 7 hours and 2 more - 10 hours

I wish to make tank 54 "x 26" x 24 "light 8x54W T5 will suffice

8x54W with be good. Never underestimate the power of T5's! :p

sonny hi, im on week 1 and day 3 of MB7 load, and my alk is kinda high its at 11.5 DKH , all my other params are stable.calcium 400, ph is 7.9 with lights out 8.1 on, salt 1.025 temp around 80F, 0 ammonia, everything else is stable and at low levs. Is this raise in Alk normal??, if so what can i do to lower it. I noticed the alk was bad because around the six day of dosing i noticed my red monty cap , and rainbow to start having what looked like alk burns, then i went and bought salifert alk test kit, and sure enough. This same thing happened about 4 months ago when i first tried this mb7 method and it but i stopped it asap. and everything went back to norm, but now same thing. I dose Brightwell a and b daily, but i think im going to stop until i get this back t norm levels. i dose a capfull of both and have for a while and never had any issues with. My tank is a RSM 250, and like i said, haven't changed anything from what im used to other than mb7 so i doubt anything else had to do it it. thank you sonny your advice will be truly appreciated. ohh yea and checked for aefw , monty nudys all that stuff and nothing. ty sir

So the MB7 is increasing ALK? I am not sure why it is increasing you ALK. It should depress your PH, but I will have to look up why it is increasing you ALK.

Thank you for taking the time to answer :) Your tank really is amazing.

Thanks!
very good

:)

Yes, the skimmer is on 24/7. Follow the dosing instructions but leave your skimmer on if you would like to. I only turn my skimmer off when I am dosing AA's. And even then, it is only off for about 30 minutes.

Yes you can. I do with no issues. Purigen will just help remove some of the organics.

Just a quick update on the system:

-I fragged up and sold off quite a few SPS. I was getting bored with the tank layout and wanted to change things up. I also moved acans, zoa's, and other LPS into more prominent locations.

- While the tank does look slightly different now, it wasn't the big change I was hoping for. I will have to wait until I get a larger system before trying something new.

Not much else going on, I added a Baby's Breath Favia and a yellow/orange ricordia yesterday. I have never had a ricordia before so hopefully it will do well and not fry under the T5's. My buddy Jim also hooked me up with some nice zoa's: Candy Apple, Carlito, Red people eaters, and Jokers.

Sunny. I hit 2.5 weeks of dosing MB7 (with high-medium nutrient dosing direction).
I got little green layer of algae in front glass. Should I stop dosing MB7?

My water parameter is:
ALK: 11DKH (Elos test)
Ca: 300-320 ppm (Salifert, and API test) kind of low so I start dosing calcium part (from 2 part) or Can I use Kent Turbo Calcium to kick up Ca level?
Mag. 1100.
TIA Sunny.

Sunny,
I added a MJ 1200 mod to my sump and it stirred up a ton of junk. Obviously, the display looks horrible. Do you think this cloudiness in the display will cause a problem.

I don't know if it will cause a problem, but I have heard of people actually stirring up their sump once in a while and feeding their corals that way...

Hi Sonny, First of all I love your tank. Simple but beautiful.
I have the same light as you and I really like the lighting that you had back in August. Can you tell me what you had? I'm about to change mine and would like to purchase the same ones. Thank you.

Hey Sonny, really looking forward to seeing what you have planned.

Nice grab on the Baby's Breath. Was actually thinkin of pickin up some favia's.

After the holidays I should have a new batch of Z's and P's for ya. Hope they're doing well.

Let me tell you guys something about Sunny. Back in August I moved a 350 gallon sps system. About a month after the move it crashed. Threw away colony after colony. Not only was Sunny there to help on a rainy moving day, he also hooked me up with a cooler full of frags after everything got back under control. This guy spends hours online helping people by answering pm's and posts and what not but us guys in Michigan are truly lucky to be able to get know the guy. Couldn't ask for a better friend or more helpfull reefer.

Rock on Sunny

WOW... you changed it up??? I hope all goes well for you with the change!

Anxious to see what you've put together!!!

Oh wow Jim, I dont know what to say. :o The Zoa's I got from you are doing great. Ill have a frag of the Baby's Breath fro you once it grows a bit. :D Oh and let me know if you need some more SPS. After I fraged the ATL Strawberry Fields it took off in growth so I can get you a bigger piece now.

Guys, Jim has my dream setup. You guys should see his setup! His basement fishroom looks better then most fish stores. You dont find better reefers or people than Jim.

Hope to see you guys soon.

Sonny,

I started the MB7 two weeks ago in my 34 gal Solana using 5ml per day (assumed 25 gal system volume). My Nitrates were 20 for the past 6-8 months and my Phosphate was close to 0. After the first week, the nitrates were still 20 and phosphate 0. After the second week of MB7 initial dose level, the nitrates dropped to 5 and the phosphate is still 0 (I am still have GFO in a small reactor). The water is extremely clear, as expected.

My question - should I just go to the maintenance level of MB7 and see what the nitrates do over the next couple of weeks before starting vodka? My thinking was if I get the nitrates to 5 or less with just MB7, what additional value will the vodka bring?
