I really like the rimless. I only have 2 Vortechs in the tank, there are no other obstructions.

Well, where the tank is going the front pane will likely be the only side that is easily viewable. So, really there was no point in making that side Starphire. The left side will be somewhat viewable, but it will be faces a wall so no need for Starphire on that side.

That does look awesome, but I would not be able to have any wave makers in a Rimless. I could, but I would be scared to pop the seams. :lol:

This tank build is definately going to deserve a sticky to keep it at the top of this forum, not that it will need one,I am sure we all will be posting so many positive comments that it will naturally stay there. Good luck I can't wait to learn from your new build and pick up some new tricks along the way.
Sonny......I can't find any good pics of my tank with the external overflows, but I will confidentially state I do not know why anyone would go internal when designing a custom tank. Other than maybe space limitation, but even at that it only adds 5 1/2" to the back. And imho your tank stand is coming off the wall at least that much anyway.

My previous tank was a 60" x 30" x 24" rimless, and I used a wavebox for 1.5 years without any problem. I sold the tank to "fishypets" and he's had it running, also with a wavebox, for nearly 2 years now. I understand your concern, but you might want to check with your tank manufacturer and see if they recommend against using the wavebox or not. My tank maker was very comfortable with it, and since you have a good relationship with Miracles, you could easily ask them and I'm sure they'd give you an honest answer. With a 3/4" bond between the panes of glass, I would hope it would be secure enough. Of course if you're not interested in a wavebox, then don't bother, but you could also consider an external compartment to house a powerhead in order to decrease the in-tank clutter and preserve more room for your beautiful corals.

I agree. I'm planning a build; although, mine won't be done as quickly as yours.
I also talked to Derek (I think that's his name) from Miracles about building an external wavebox onto the tank as well as external overflow. Now that I think of it, the dimensions were the same as your old tank. Anyway, he was completely confident and comfortable with the idea and felt very sure that it wouldn't compromise the integrity of the tank.Here's another idea, since the building is still in progress. Instead of having a black insert for the external overflow, why not go for a sheet of black acrylic siliconed in the tank to cover the entire wall? The only downside I see would be: 1. You may not like black or blue. 2. You have to use a special scraper for that wall. When I talked to Derek, I told him I also wanted to do that, and again, he seemed to like the idea. The inserts are nice, but you still see the silicone.

Another idea might be to have the Vortech's in the end of the tank, so, you wouldn't see them at all. Take a look at johnteatro's 150G Build, I wish I had done this, that really eliminates everything in the tank except coral and fish.
