Hello,
I've kept many freshwater tanks and have common knowledge on how to cycle freshwater and how to care for freshwater, is there any advice you guys can give me before i dive into reefing.

Read and watch as much as you can about everything related to reefing. Plan everything out slowly; ask questions.

Welcome to RC. Don't be a stranger.

Do research anywhere you can and ask questions. The more specific you can be, the better the answers will tend to be.

Take your time. There's an old saying that say... Nothing good happens quickly in an aquarium!

take your time

get a list equipment together before you start to get an idea of cost, be prepared for sticker shock

do your homework before you start - sometimes more expensive is cheaper

tanks up to around 100g get easier ( not cheaper) as they get bigger, past that they start getting harder again

current reef tech can be efficient and quiet - lots of lighting choices from good and inexpensive to costy but cool

Thats said I love reefing it just takes patience - "nothing good happens fast in a reef tank" - the imp

Life will be easier if you ask about each coral, get its name written down, and look it up. It will be easier if you do not mix classes of coral. There is sps, lps, non-photosynthesizing, and softie.

Research, research, research.
That's what has helped me and without it - just diving in I would have certainly failed. I've only been at this for about 6 months but I know that you have to research EVERYTHING before you buy it, from the fish to the pumps.

All always state that there are only two rules in reefing (other than reading the stickies)
Rule 1. Take your time as everything in reefing should go slow.
Rule 2. Even slower than that.

I was in your shoes about a year ago. Spent 3 months researching my setup. If you want corals, I would suggest going very slowly and start with the easy stuff. It can get hard looking at an "empty" tank so to speak, but you will spend more money watching things die than you want to if you rush it. It is a lot of fun that being said.

Oh, and you get what you pay for equipment wise....

Quarantine every fish thoroughly. That will take care of 90% of the headaches.
And don't think you need to dose anything until your tank has been running at least a year. I wasted more time and money chasing numbers and killed more corals than I like to admit.

Go slow, research and ask lots of questions. Folks here have been there and dome that. Listen to the voice of experience. That's why you joined RC, to learn.
