Hey yall. So today is my birthday and from my dad I received a RO unit. I do not think it is the DI. How bad is this? It says drinking unit.

Yeah I believe this a system or households instead of aquariums. That being said, you can most likely add a di cartridge to it. Check brs I know they sell some upgrade kits which I assume could work with this also. It looks like it uses the same 1/4" tubing.

I think you're okay it looks like a four-stage system,you might have to reconfigure it and get new filters but you will want: prefilter,carbon block,then ro membrane , and your last stage will be di resin. I would also pick up a dual Inline TDS meter

i agree with the above..
I would go to brs and ORDER A Cartridge replacement kit . If that is now a DOW Membrane get a new membrane as well. Also get a pressure gauge. You can hook this under you sink and use it for drinking water and make ro water by Adding a bypass valve before the storage tank. OHH Get a FLUSH Kit as well.

As stated, you can use this with some modification. I endorse the BRS Dual DI canisters, being able to swap a partially used one into the back and depelete it completely before replacing is nice and I think worth the expense:

Thank you all for the replies! So this is the one. I really wish he would have listened to me and got the BRS!! but I can not complain. Looks like I will order the single deionizer for it. Thanks!

I got one much like this. Like the above people said, add a different cannister. Just "T" the water line to the di unit. You might need a reducer "T". Also, add a check valve so water from the di doesn't flow back to the tank. And add a shutoff before the di unit for ease of resin replacement.

Far better to use RO than tap in most cases. No guarantee but the water will most certainly be cleaner.

Definitely.
My water comes out of the RO unit at 4 tds.
My resin lasts a long time.
If you don't have one, buy a TDS checker.

The RO water is really good for drinking.
