the big debate... blue hippo in a 48 inch long tank or not?

the reason i ask, is because i see many people keep them for 3+ years in a 90 gallon tank (same exact size as 75 gasllon just like 4 inches taller... i dont think that that benigits the fish any more)

and i have a 120 gallon tank description in my "ultimate reef aquariums book" that shows a 48 inch 120 with 3 blue hippos

could i keep a small blue hippo in my tank for 4-5 years?

someone told me that they grow pretty slow... even with good conditions and a lot of food.

what would you do?

Are you 100% positive that you will be upgrading before it outgrows the tank? If so then I'd say ok, provided that the tang is small.

I have a 72 bow (48") and I asked A LOT of people and I didn't really get anyone that said that no. As you probably know, they are very finneky so make sure you have a cleaner shrimp. Everyone I spok with told me to make sure I get at least a medium one and that is what I did. I haven't had any problems yet. knock on wood.

A hippo!!!!!!! I think you'd need a HUGE tank for a hippo!

That's not true! I had one in my 55 before I got my 72! You've been talking to the wrong people.

I have a feeling we're talking about two different hippos..........

Questionable. Ask people who have had them. I haven't but I really wanted one. I had several people say they are too hard, need more room...Although, they are awesome!

achillies is supposted to be super hard to keep healthy... if they werent know to be unhealthy i would get one right now..

am i correct in saying that they are hard (hrader than blue hippo or powder) to keep (achillies)

and why is the powder blue hard to keep?

no, i know i can keep a blue hippo and a powder blue... i just wanna see what you all thought.

about the achillies, i thought that thay were really hard. if they are not, i would consider one of those since they are smaller fish.

Powder Blue and Achilles are both VERY difficult fish and have dismal survival rates in captivity.

The Hippo in a 75g would work for a while...they need a large amount of veggies in their diet to avoid HLLD.
