Soulpatch's 150 SC build

Well ti doesnt look brown to me and one can't be ripped off when an item is free can they. HA HA.

I mounted a few pieces last night so I will be curious how they do over the weekend while I am away and not messing with the tank.

I believe I am coming home from the beach either Sunday night or Monday morning just so I have time to set up the new sump on the tank and grout my backsplash. Possibly have some time for a cigar as well. HA HA.

Both a well deserved break from everything else. Hopefully the kitchening goes well and finishes up ahead of schedule (now you can HA HA).

Also, you've convinced me that I'll need to go T5/LED hybrid on my new tank. I'd add T5s now, but I'm leery about using the Aquaticlife or Coralife bulbs, since those are the only two companies that make 18w 16.5" T5s which would fit in the biocube canopy. Apparently UVL used to make some nice ones, but no longer do, and none of the other "high end" crowd make that size bulb anymore. Too bad I can't just cut the 36" bulbs in half ;)

Kitchen is only like a month behind my initial schedule. Though added quite a few things that were not planned on initially so it is what it is. If I had one solid day in the kitchen my work would be done. Remaining list in kitchen is:

touch up some paint
paint closet door
paint bathroom door
paint trim
lay baseboard
lay toe kick
hang bathroom door
grout backsplash
grout small section of tile by bathroom door

So like I said if I had a solid 6-10 hours in the kitchen without the kid and wife annoying me I would be done.

I thought T5 weren't needed as all of the new LED systems have come out and people have had such good success with them. That might be the case for those who are on top of everything and such but for the normal reefer like me I think the T5 adds a significant boost to both growth and color. Couple that with the fact that for significantly less money you get full coverage without the shadowing issues and I see nothing but win win.

I still need to flip in my actinic bulbs I ordered in to help give the corals more pop and will do that on Monday when I work on everything else.

Once the old trigger sump is out I am going to list it as well as my dosing setup. Doser, hanging bracket, awc dc pumps for it, BAO dosing containers, and an entire BRS dosing kit with all the chems needed as I never used it.

I am going to go both calc reactor and thinking I am going to even flip out my BRS reactors for Avast Spyglass ones. Saves me some space by having them in sump but I need to do some measureing first before I make that call.

This weekend it is going down. HA HA.

I have the PVC, fittings, a few extra valves, sump, clear pvc glue, and fresh spa flex. I am going to put a cheap ball valve on the 75 gallon drum tomorrow so I can start to fill it and use it as a holding tank for spare water till I get in my pump and such to hook it up as permanent AWC. Using it as holding tank will give me over 100 gallons of water to use during the swap as I will be removing as much as 50-60 gallons during the swap in an effort to ease the load on the stand.

I have seriously been toying with going bean and still might during this whole switch. I have ordered in spare bulkheads just to be safe in case I want to swap out some things. My concern with going bean is three fold:

1 - The secondary emergency air line would be unsightly. I have thought about this and if I put in 2 90s at the top of the secondary to make a r if you will I can just drill the hole in the top like I woudl put an airline on BUT keep the top of the pipe a smidge below the top of the final emergency. The normal water line in the overflow woudl come up roughly 1/2 way on the pipe and therefore woudl trickle but still have the air break without the unsightly air line.

2. Return plumbing. I notched out the teeth on the sides of my overflow for my returns and if I relocate them I would have 2 holes that I worry about the fish. I could get some acrylic and weld on to seal with I guess but would prefer not. My solution in my head would be to put the secondary drain in the middle of my overflow and the final drain on one end. Since I have the 2 45 degree adaptors on the final I can keep it tucked behind the return. If I use a locline Y fitting I should be able to get around the secondary drain and still use the "holes" where the teeth are missing.

3. If I go bean I need the return to come over the back and in doing so it might very well interfere with my screen top. I have a jumper and will probably have more so I dont want to ditch it. Cutting a hole for the piping seems counter productive as well.

At this point just to not deal with things I am thinking of keeping Herbie running. It has been stable for me thus far. I think I might drop the main drain in the overflow box closer to the bottom as I should have more capacity in my sump. I should have done it before when I added the screen top as that increased the height of the pipe by roughly 1-1.5 inches and as such I had to raise the water line so that my emergency is used slightly.

So stay tuned. I will be posting up some pics this weekend of the process and everything involved as it goes. Hopefully no oops moments but I am sure there will be at least one.

So the day has come. I started to run the plumbing for the 75 last night. I am awaiting a bulkhead to be delivered today so I can finish the hard plumbing.

The two lines with the valves will have cam lock connectors for tubing so I cam push and pull water as needed with the pump.

I will NOT be setting up the awc yet as I go on vacation next week and do not want to risk any equipment going binkers. Hard enough for me to do the sump...

Forgive messiness as things are all in motion and I will be posting up pics as I go and finished.

So this sump has MUCH shorter drain runs which made me have to pull the old plumbing from the bulkheads by melting the glue. It's plumbed in now for the drains and should I have any issues spare bulkheads just got delivered.

Working on the return side now and trying to figure out where to put my manifold so it is not in the way...

nice bud! those type of projects are always a undertaking eh.
maybe I missed in but how did you get the sump in there? do you have a side door on the stand?

oh and how are you liking the marine pure bio balls and blocks? any issues with them?

Looking good, as usual. Glad everything went as planned.

Just an FYI, you do know they make clear primer and glue?

That is clear primer and glue. Lol. I don't like the all in one stuff though so I buy them seperate.

I took the one brace off. You can see it gone in one pic and then back above. Came out without much issue but getting it back in was a pain. She gave way though.

Marine pure is awesome. No complaints.

Ok it's done and I'm done for the night. I need to put in the reactors still and I have no clue where the dosing containers or future calcium reactor will go unless I move the ato container out of the stand.

This was my mess the wife came home to...

What's the cure time on gluing the pvc? New sump looks great! Plumbing looks very clean! Living area not so much! Haha my wife and 11 month old left today for a few hours. I got a lot of uninterrupted tank work completed! Can't wait to see more updates!

Looks nice. Which Tildeline sump is it and if you don't mine me asking, the ball valve on your drain what brand is it? I like how it looks.

Pvc glue totally cures in a day but it is water safe in minutes especially in our low pressure situation.
