absolutely stunning!!!

Wow, those Acans are amazing! Great buys there.

Thanks. Now I need them to grow out so I can sell frags. LOL

Tank update. So things have recovered well as seen in previous pics. I have restocked most of my losses and my itch to tinker is growing strong. I have satisfied that slightly buying a new jeep wrangler rubicon yesterday so I will mod that some but its getting cold and my focus is indoors now.

For the tank I plan on doing the following before end of year:

Relocate ATO container to outside of stand likely onto the base of a storage rack I should be adding shortly

Set up calc reactor

Clean up apex install (with moving things in and out it has gotten messy)

remove the slide out panel for apex and install against stand

add another fan unit to the canopy (reef brite unit suprisingly runs hot so I need to vent canopy more)

Run feeder line for RODI so I no longer need to carry a 5 gal bucket over. (Yes I get that I could run it into sump with a float but I like redundancy of the tunze unit)

Mount new frags and rescape slightly

Organize items on new storage shelf so no longer scattered

Pour adult beverage and enjoy tank...

In a way that is a lot in a short period of time during a VERY busy part of the year BUT holidays also bring family and friends over and it is a push to get things done and tidied up.

Well I got storage solutions done this past weekend. I will post pics tonight when I get home but I got a 4 shelf unit from HD with doors on it to give it a clean look. It also have ability for me to put child lock on it as my 3 year old gets more freedom and into more things in the house...

I also put a smaller 4 shelf open air unit in my bathroom down there where I will keep cleaning buckets, salt, and whatnot. Should help keep things looking good. My older wheeled unit for 4 drawers will likely be thrown out as it is expendable at this point. It did its job well for the nano but the larger tank has more needs.

I need to measure but I will also likely move the ATO container either behind the tank stand or into the new doored storage unit. I need to see where it will fit best so that I can put the calcium reactor in the stand.

Otherwise everything is doing well in the tank finally. I need to get some more cleaning and frags mounted though which will likely happen this weekend.

Sounds like you have a good plan! Would definitely like to see pics once you get done. Keep up the good work! Tank is looking great!

I will get recent pics tomorrow night or Thursday. I have some boxes and trash bags sitting right by the tank awaiting trash day...

I have an idea of a plan but those typically go to crap once I start a project...

So I have been doing some reading and I think I found another culprit for my tank. I need to test this week but from what I am reading HW Marine Mix and other similar salts drop alk while in storage. I have been battling low alk and test my new SW after I mix up a new batch but not during the next week or so while it goes into the system. So I might be inadvertently pumping out decent water and pumping in low alk water.

I need to mix up a new batch this week and will test and do a water change with the fresh water then minitor the stored water for the next week to see if I am in fact having issues maintaining values.

I dont believe I had any issues with Reef Crystals though in full disclosure I dont test my stored water after mixing and the reef crystals were used when I was QTing fish so I went through salt very fast so it was not sitting around.

Tex - I noticed you had posted about low alk and am wondering if ou are suffering same issue I am. I will PM you as well just in case you dont see this post....

When I was using RC the beginning of the bucket was fine for MG, as it got older I had to start adding 5ml of MG at each water change. 5 gallons every two weeks. Food for thought.

You talking just mixing the salt for that change? If so then you should always stir up the salt before use if you wont be using the entire container. Otherwise the salt and added elements settle in the container in different layers and thus will mix up to various levels when you finally use them.

As for when once mixed it appears only alk precips out from all the reading I am doing. Tex and I are going to run some tests though to verify over the next couple of weeks.

Though if this is the case (as I suspect it is) I will need to do a LOT of testing once I get the calcium reactor online. I am sort of thinking that AWC is not a viable solution if I cant get things stable. I do not want to be dosing alk to keep things in check once the calcium reactor comes online.

Read those same threads today, and it got me thinking also. While I never mixed up more then I'm going to use at once, now that I have the mixing station I'll be mixing and storing it for a couple weeks at a time.

I'll keep an eye on the big 3 while I'm storing IO/RC and let you know what I come up with in a couple weeks.

I bought a similar storage container and put it in my spare room. Mine is double sided with a wall between, so of course my wife gets half for her hobby stuff. I hear you on the little mini 3 drawer carts we had with the biocubes, while it served it purpose, it's outlived its usefulness with the larger tank. I got rid of mine a while ago.

Tanks is looking great man! Hopefully some day soon I'll win the algae battle and mine will be just as nice. Some of those acans are absolutely stunning!

I dont remember the same issues with RC but then again I was doing smaller batches so it was likely more disguised. Let me know though. Perhaps the borwn sludge in RC helps keep things stable longer term. I am willing to go back if that proves the case.

I have been searching through threads about Alk dropping in stored saltwater for a while and it seems like a pretty common thing with no real solution. From everthing I have read no one is 100% for certain what causes it to drop. A few consider since NSW normally doesn't have such a high ALK maybe the higher ALK isn't stable enough, combines with Ca and ends up precipitation.

I stumbled onto that thread earlier which is what started my train of thought about my AWC. I wish I had seen it prior to spending so much money on water changing gear...

I am at least 600 in for my AWC setup. Though I am unsure what amount my alk drops in a week so I will mix some up in my container and start testing. I might be able to account for it with my calc reactor as well so who knows.
