Sound levels of various pumps

Roger:

I have two Tunze powerheads on a controller that I've had for a couple of years. Both are louder than my wife would prefer, but one has become significantly louder after a recent cleaning in acid to remove internal CaCO3 deposits. It is more of a rattling sound as opposed to the usual humming type of sound.

Is there anything that you'd suggest doing about it? I tried Vaseline on the magnet part, and that worked for a few minutes, but then the sound returned.

As a follow up, are any of the streams or nanostreams more quite, in general, than the powerheads?

Thanks

Randy

Hi Randy,

There should not be a huge noise difference. I suspect two possibilities. The drive units may just be worn and need to be replaced, they are part 7200.60. If they have been cleaned with a strong acid on numerous occasions there may also be some expansion of the plastic. We usually recommend just vinegar. Usually though a strong acid just reduces the tolerance of some parts and this just makes them clog up faster with lime and doesn't result in noise.
