Soundproofing Stand

I want to put some sound absorbent material inside my stand and want to know what has worked best for people. I know some people have used 3/4" pink insulation foam from Home Depot and others have used foam eggcrate but I don't know the results. I really don't want to spend an arm and a leg for materials like dynomat. Does anyone have any recommendations? thanks.

Actually, pink styrofoam is not very good at absorbing sound. Melamine foam panels or corning compressed fiberglass panels are much better.

The question should be what particular sound are you trying to stop. Is it pump hum? Water splashing? Skimmer intake? It would be more effective to eliminate the source, rather than to mask it. My .02

The sound is pump and skimmer noise, as well as a little bit of drain noise from my overflow. I have a durso that completely silenced my drain, but I want to lessen my sump noise as well. I've tried everything else, but installing sound absorption material to lessen the sounds.

I was looking around at lowes and found ceiling tiles that are mold and mildew resistant and block 55% of sound. Has anyone used something like this?

I used "undercoating" spray from the auto parts store to "deaden" sound in speaker boxes. It dries sticky, so using that to adhere some foam might be a good idea.

hi,

the pump in my sump was noisy so i put lines of silicone on the bottom about 10mm thick and it helped loads.

To dampen the vibration noise of the return pump, use a few feet of flexible tubing before connecting it to the remainder of the return plumbing

All of the pumps on the sump are connected with flexible tubing. I might try using silicone on the bottom of the pumps like Barks mentioned.
