Source for Acrylic Rods

This weekend I'm doing some aquascaping, in a 90g. I was planning on using JB water weld, but last night decided that for what I want to do that rods will be better for me.

I'm looking to source some rods like from HD/Lowes (or I guess a plastic supply)

What DIY material can I use for rods? Looking for suggestions

You can use plastic clothes hangars, break the bottoms to the length you need. Top angles also work well for most applications so there's little waste other than the ends and top hook from a hangar.

If you want acrylic rods, fleabay has them all over the place but hangars are by far the cheapest route and they hold up well. I've got some in a 4 yr old system still going strong.

HP Manufacturing in downtown Cleveland has a retail store called House of Plastics. I picked up 1/2" and 1" acrylic rod a couple of months ago.

those driveway markets I thought were fiberglass (or the ones I have bought in the past)

wont' they splinter when trying to cut?

Most plastic suppliers have cheap scrap bins that is perfect for what we do.

I found that HD carries a "Universal Clear Wand" replacement for Blinds. On their web site it looks to be an an octagon shaped acrylic rod. will go check that out. It's cheep (less than $3)

the driveway markers are fiberglass, as i pick out the tiny little splinters from my hands and fingers. I knew i should have paid better attention in shop class.

Not all of them are. HD sells acrylic ones as well.

To the person who suggested the window blind rods, good call, that's about as plastic as anyone can get

UPDATE

The HD "clear wand" for blinds is a bit too weak for what I wanted to do. It would be fine for smaller displays but in the end I cut up some fiberglass driveway markets (using a hacksaw) Just note that if you do this the rods are bright colors and need to hide them completely
