southdown dust

ne1 here know how to control the sand's dust

no i didnt rinse it
all my rocks have the sediment on them and if i swish them off i know i will get anotherwhite out and
my cascade 300 hob wll take newhere from 8+hrs to 2 days to clear it
but by then the sand will have settled back on the rocks

I would rinse my southdown 5 - 10 times before putting it in the tank.

Eventually it should settle down.

If the "dust" is heavy enough to settle on the rocks, the filter probably will not take it out of the tank.
I'd use a turkey baster to gently "wash" a small area, let things settle, baste another area etc.
Remember in a reef only bad things happen fast. Don't be in a rush, the dust will settle.

Good luck
Bill

greatgman001, any updates on the South Down Dust? I think I am having a similar problem. Here is a picture from my tank. I am adding water right now.

Thanks

mine cleared in 2 days - I do have alittle settled on the rocks- but I will use a baster as suggested. Make sure when you add water you use a plate or other "deflector".

the dust is not too bad now
i guess it needs to be weighted down some with bactiera
i got a maxijet 1200 w hacksaw mod in the tank so thew dust is still floating around but it has cleared up
i'd say 65%:)
