SouthDown Natural Play Sand

okay here is the latest.........The store she ordered is from last time is out of it. So, here is a mission for everyone: Call HomeDepots in the surrounding states of PA and search for the homedepot that carries it. Call and ask for Tropical Playsand. When you find it, post on here and I will get with Karla and she will have it shipped in.

ok, i went to home depot to have a look. all the had was sakrete or Bonsal sands. i called 1-800-548-4033 and the tech lady said it is all silica sand.

any information on the sand you were (are) ordering? did you ever get more brought in?

I was a HD today and saw, Natural Sand, clear bag, blue label. It's said is 100% natural sand. Is this good? 2.98 for 50 #

the Lowes here in Leesburg has Pallets of the patio paver base,
its in a brown bag . bag says"Step 1" on it
pure aragonite, ive done the vinagar test on it
looks great in the tank. good mix of grain sizes.
about $3 for 50#, been told it looks a lot like southdown as far as grain size. but ive never seen real Southdown, so i dont know.

Chris

do you know the name so maybe i can call around to a couple and see if the have it in stock around here? or is patio baver base step 1 the name? and where in store would it be? patio area, building supplies near concrete?
Ben

grain size is from fine (<.25)-3mm . looks very natural in the tank
very white.

yeah just ask for the Kolorscapes Patio/paver Base, Step 1
in the brown bag, out by the paver block and concrete edging (outside)

Chris

I got one bag today, I'll post a pic later. grain size is good. It might need to be washed because is kind of a tan color. What is the vinegar test?

Got the pictures, What you guys think.

The vinegar test is where you take the sand and place some vinegar on it (in a cup or something). If it bubbles and fizzes it is aragonite if not it is silica.

It's the right thing :) fizzes like crazy. I wonder why is tan, I did washed it good. I'll give it a try in my tank.

Hey cristhiam, I can barley see that pic......... J/K Dude..... Occupation: Graphic Designer Photoshop=resize.......hahahhaha
Yeah I need to pick some of that up. Picked some up the other day for a buddy and it looked really nice in the tank. much whiter in the tank than when in the bag.

Lol, no time for re-sizing, I wanted to get a close up of it. I got 5 bags today. Can't wait to get the tank set up.

I just bought some today and it is definitly white when you put it in your tank. Lowes carries a ton of old castle products... maybe we could get them to get some old castle play sand!?! Probably not thought;).
I am going to go and get a few more bags of the paver step one tomorrow. I bought 2 bags today but wanted to test first $3.19 a bag can't beat it.

Some of the sand is a little smaller than pebble size but there is some fine sand in there that could be sifted out so you don't need to put the big pieces in.

I got 5 bags today, do you guys think is enough for a 125? I looks that I'll need more :) I can't put it in the tank since is not ready yet
