SouthDown Natural Play Sand

If you plan on havng a DSB it is better to not rinse the sand. You will be eliminating all of the very fine grains that are an integral part of a DSB.

If you let the sand soak in salt water for a week, you will find that it settles much quicker. Bacteria growing on the sand tends to hold the grains together better and eliminates much of the sand storm.

What is the name or description on the bags of sand? Would it happen to be Gulf Sand?

This stuff is from the carribean I'm pretty sure. I seem to remember reading that it forms where some differing currents meet up and it actually precipitates out of the water.

Sand

JuanGil75, I wouldn't gas up the whip just yet. I called the Melbourne HD this morning and spoke to Carla from the Pro Desk. She checked the sand and told me that there were 5 bags left. Since I wasn't doing much at work anyway, I broke for lunch at 10:30 and went to Melbourne and got the last 5 bags. BUT, when I spoke too her she said that she was ordering another pallet and that it would take 2 weeks for it to come in. Apparently, nobody realizes how much demand there is for this sand at HD besides Carla ( thanks havoc1010). She said that as long as there is a demand, they'll stock it. So anyone who wants some, go and get the stuff when it comes in. Because the more it sits, the more reluctant they are to go through the trouble of ordering it. Hopefully, we can keep the train rolling and give other reefers an opportunity to save a little dough. Oh, by the way, the sand looks like the one on the right except it doesn't say Southdown on the bag. Same picture of the kid on the bag and all.

Sweet.......56 bags sold in less than 96 hours. No wonder Carla was so willing to order another pallet when we spoke. I hope she gets a raise out of this, because she deserves it! Thanks Havoc1010, you did a great job.

You guys are welcome. If you need anything else, let me know. I can find just about anything. I didn't want to be the only poor reefer to get a break. :P

--I can get a good deal on acrylic if anyone is interested.

Cool deal..... I am going to sell my 54 gal to my buddy so I grabbed a couple of extra bags for him. Since Richard said he got someone else to get it for him. All in All Saturday turned out to be a pretty good day for Jay24k and I. It just sucks that everything is pretty far for him and I being stuck right in the middle of the state. Was a nice ride though.

thanks again Patrick and Carla

Hey

is there a way I can speak to this lady? I would love to geta store to store transfer or have here contact the store or stores here in NJ about Southdown. There's always someone here looking for Southdowmn, enough to go through a pallet in a couple of days, if they could find it. It's a precious commodity here, when it used to be easy to get. How can I get it here again?

Would you guys mind is your fellow BARS peeps get on the south down too? We do live in the area and I'd love to get some more myself

I'd just call the Home Depot and ask them to get more in. Talk to Carla if you can. I don't know why anyone would care.

Ok

but what's the use in doing that if there are no takers for the sand? I need to make sure that this stuff will move, even off season, that way they will keep bringing it in. The more demand, the more they will want to bring the product in. So, any takers if I can get it in?

I know you can go to any home depot in the north east as far south as Tenn. and get it from any HD. Thats what I don't get.....Is "aquarium sand" non existent up there?

I live in Ohio and I am not able to find it ANYWHERE... I will have to check to see if I can get some from PA... Who did you have to talk to at store level, store manager ?? I am sure if I can get a pallet order it will be gone in days...

Does anyone have their receipt or a bag handy?

Whats the home depot stock #, and the UPC code?

I'm going to try to get some here

I've got 2 extra bags if anyone wants em'. They're $7.00 apiece. Gotta recoup a little of the gas money since I made 2 trips to get them. On the first trip Carla was gone for the day and nobody knew where the sand was being kept. So I came back the next day after speaking to her on the phone. The bags were torn in a couple spots while on the pallet outside. So they're all taped up since I didn't want the sand all over the wife's SUV. Anyhoo, it's the real deal and needs to be removed from my garage floor (time to clean the garage again).
