Southdown is a calcium carbonate product- I wish we could get here in AZ, but it's rare. The silica is fine though, I use it for my remote deep sand beds. No PO4 problems, and silica has such a low solubility it isn't a worry either. If it were, we couldn't use glass tanks. I wash mine in freahwater till it runs clear. If you are using it for a DSB, you can mix in a couple of handfuls of regular aragonite sand to get back the buffering capacity you lose with silica.
