OK, is this the same stuff as the Tropical Play Sand that HD sells. I looked at the bag and it says nothing about Southdown. It also claims to be a silica sand. Is this ok to use? No Si or PO4 problems with this stuff?

Cheers,
Scott

Southdown is a calcium carbonate product- I wish we could get here in AZ, but it's rare. The silica is fine though, I use it for my remote deep sand beds. No PO4 problems, and silica has such a low solubility it isn't a worry either. If it were, we couldn't use glass tanks. I wash mine in freahwater till it runs clear. If you are using it for a DSB, you can mix in a couple of handfuls of regular aragonite sand to get back the buffering capacity you lose with silica. Check out old threads in Ron Shimeks forum, there are tons of threads about using silica sand. Great stuff for 5 bucks a bag!

Pecrfect timing! I'll take the sand. I was ready to buy some Aragamax, but this will save me from doing so. I will send you a PM and call you tomorrow to make arrangements for pickup.

Good buy Scott!!!! Gary you could have sold that for more per pound then crack!!! Keep your day job, you will never make a good drug dealer...LOL
