Spartan 300GPD RODI

I posted this in the BRS forum but no responses so far:

I received a spartan 300gpd rodi system used from a donation. I have it hooked up and running pretty well, considering our low PSI at work (40-46PSI). I am getting 15-25 TDS out of the RO unit and then it gets strange.

The way the system is currently set up the additional filter cartridge is housing a long blue "membrane" instead of a DI cartridge. I'm not sure if this is an extended RO membrane or.....

I have a DI cartridge for the last stage, but it currently gets approx 22TDS into the last stage (membrane) and 0 TDS out.

Perhaps from the photo you can identify what is loaded in the last stage right now.

It looks like you have a sediment filter, two carbon blocks, your two Membrains and what I would guess is a blue cartridge contains the DI resin.

Also with how bad that sediment filter looks have you removed all filters to figure out what the actual PSI is of the water source? That sediment filter could be a big part of your PSI problem. Just because its yellow it doesn't mean it clogged, but it could be an issue.

I've tested the pressure right out of the tap and it is in the low to mid 40s. A new sediment filter probably isn't a bad idea anyway. Our booster pump donation order FINALLY went through and will be here next Thursday.

I suppose it could be a blue DI canister...but that seems so strange as all DI canisters I see are the clear tubes where you can see the resin. The only other thing it could be would be a third RO membrane, in order to take the last 20-30TDS down to 0?

I know the obvious answer is to open it and check, but I never seem to remember my cartridge tool for loosening the housing.

I hooked up the booster pump yesterday. Went from 42PSI to 90PSI. Still getting 96% rejection but my production is naturally way up. Going to order a new sediment filter and I have two new carbon filters.

I'm also going to re-plumb my booster pump in between the last pre-filter and the first RO membrane to avoid any risk to the pre-filter housings.

When I have used a booster pump in the past this is how I had mine plumbed. Mostly to protect the booster pump from larger particles ( booster pumps have close tolerances)

Russ from Buckeye Hydro likes to plumb a small canister filter between the carbon block and the membrane, he claims carbon can come out of the carbon block and get into the booster pump. I have never experienced that.

It could be the membrane you have, I get a slightly lower rejection rate in the summer when the water is warmer, but now I am getting a solid 99%
 
It could be the membranes (dual) since it was a used unit and the dual units typically have a lower rejection rate (second membrane uses the waste water from the first).

Overall it is performing pretty well and it is so nice not lugging 30 gallons of water to work every week.
 
It is a generic AOK booster pump that is pushing 90PSI right now, it was basically whatever the school could afford with support.

I have adjusted the waste to RO @ 4:1
