Great news everyone! Rod Buehler of Rod's Reef and Rod's Food will be coming to speak at the April meeting at my house!

There are a couple of options for topics -

Clown Breeding
Sandbeds
DIY Surge system

After that we can have a roundtable and just hang out and learn stuff.

This is going to be an excellent opportunity for learning. Rod is a good friend and a great guy!

The only thing I ask is a small donation from attendees to help pay for his gas. He will be driving about 4 hours to visit our club.

Lisa

Here is Rod's BIO -

Rod Buehler is a true friend to the hobbyist. Over the past 18 years in the hobby, Rod has accumulated a wealth of knowledge about reefkeeping. Rod is a DIY guru, which was based on necessity due to his location and when he started reefkeeping. He is best known for his promotion and utilization of the Borneman surge. Rod's passion for the hobby lead him towards fish breeding. Initially he bred Banggai cardinals and published an article in FAMA magazine regarding the topic. His success breeding Banggai's lead him to start a business selling Banggai's and coral, which he farmed in his basement. He left his home-based business to pursue a partnership in DT's plankton farm. After leaving DT's Rod had a short stint working with Brett Perry of Zero Edge fame. Rod opened his store, Rod's Reef in 2003, and moved towards raising and breeding different species of clown fish. He currently breeds the 'Rod Onyx' clown fish ( www.rods-reef.com ) that are known for their deep black coloration. In addition to his clown fish, Rod is also the creator of the world famous Rod's Food ( www.rodsfood.com ) Over the past year, Rod has begun sharing his vast knowledge by speaking at various club meetings and events

That is really cool! Thankx Lisa again for arranging such a neat meet. I say we talk about sandbeds, something everybody has.

I can donate a couple of bucks for Rod for him taking the time to come up here.

I'm all for clownfish breeding as long as we all get sample onyx's! :D

Otherwise, I am for either the sand bed or surge system talk.

DIY surge vote here. I should be able to make it unless the kids come up with activities that I don't know about and I need to play taxi driver.

Will he be taking a food order from the group as well?

Food !! Sweet wow can t wait lisa you are awesome !!!

Thanks! Just trying to spice things up a little bit. My tank is OK, but I recently slaughtered my SPS. It happens. I am not here enough so things have to be plug-and-play so that the non-reef family members who care for it can manage. I thought that getting a good speaker out would be a fun change.

My vote is to do the sandbed topic. Rod has an interesting take on it that is very educational. The Clown breeding is interesting as well, but he will be speaking on that at Midwest Fragfest. By the way that is going to be an awesome event! I am sure I can bring a surge tank and have Rod give you all some pointers on that as well. I have been meaning to put one on my tank for some time but I am never here and it isn't high on my priority list. I will have my new sump here that is custom built by Rod, but I don't know if we will have time to install it, along with my H&S Nitrate Reactor, before the meeting. We shall see.

I am excited. This is going to be a great meeting! I hope you all can come. I will post directions in the next day or so. It is about 1/2 hour west of Appleton.

Today I bought the cutest little JBJ 3 gallon Picotope tank. I should have that cycled before the meeting. I couldn't resist...it was just too cute.

I'd love to see the surge tank even if that isn't the topic. I've toyed with a surge device for my tank more than a few times and it would be great to pick up some ideas.

Any way we could get him to talk fish nutrition and DIY fish food. jk :)

though he would be the man to talk to about it!!

I'm with Brian, I'd rather talk deep sand beds and nutrition as well. I'm afraid we'll be pulling him in all kinds of directions at the meeting.

Dan

I will let Rod decide, but I think sandbeds and nutrition would be good.

The meeting address and directions are posted in the April Meeting thread stickied above.
