hello all looking at setting up a sh tank but after researching i can not found out about the specfic gravity a which a SH tank needs to be keep at can someone please help?

should be the same as any other marine animals, anywhere from 1.022 to 1.026. Are you buying your SH from a LFS? i would ask what the Specific Gravity of there tank is, and put your tank at that. Less stress on your SH.

Tom is right here, but also, stability is the key.

The natural ocean is 36ppm on average, or 1027 @15°c, trouble with sg is that as the water cools or warms, sg changes.

Shoot for 1022 and keep it there, no fluctuations.

Mines at 1.026

Same as my reef, just easier for me that way. I was using natural seawater for many years before I started making my own water, so I figure it is cool.

I have an auto top off unit so my salinity stays dead on 24/7. I get a few drops of fresh water every few minutes.

Mark another one down for 1.026. That being said, it's just a personal preference, not that it makes anything better, but as mentioned already, I keep my reefs at that so.........

1.021 to 1.022 with my dwarfs. It apparent from years of keeping them they live longer than keeping a higher specific gravity

Thanks for the replys. I been doing reefs for about 6yrs now and always keep sg 1.025 and never had any problems. We love sh and wanted to try them so we are doing are reseach before we are thinking of getting some dwarfs any other suggests would be helpful
