My LFS has a couple coming in either tommorow or tuesday direct from Vietnam

Be careful buying fish from Vietnam, especially a deepwater fish that there are so many available of - there are suspicions that they are being juiced.

I heard the same thing. I was very apprehensive about purchasing one, but this has been my "holy grail" fish for the last two years. plus I got it alot cheaper than the $349 that LiveAquaria was charging last year. I received my Blue Line yesterday and am keeping a close eye on it. It is a gorgoues and active fish. I will try to get a pic of it when I get home today.

Absolutely be certain to see these fish eat before you buy one - way too many reports of anorexia with them (including some that I worked with - even tube feeding wouldn't bring them around).

The original two that I received were reported to be the result of a one-off rearing attempt (probably using hormones on adult fish). I acquired them from 104st. on September 26, 2001. Looking back, I can't believe that anyone was moving fish at that time, but it worked out o.k. I sent one of the fish to another public aquarium in 2005 and still have the other.

Jay- Very informative article. My LFS got two in on Monday directly from a Vietnamese collector. I observed the two for some time prior to purchase. The smaller one(4") had almost a pinched stomach and was not nipping at the live rock in the system. The larger of the two was more active and was picking at algae on the tank overflow and off the live rock. I am hoping for the best.

Reefslugs---Has yours started eating yet?

A local store in Orange County have 18 of them shipped from vietnam. Here's a few pics.

personally, i would only buy them from Taiwan. they are better handled and taken care of, and they offer juvies from time to time (i dont even know how long it has been since a juvi was offered in the states... anyone?) A definite for me later on, but only a juvi :)

Beautiful fish either way! Please keep the thread updated with pics and status of it eating. Im intrigued to know if it will have longer than a month to live (i put vietnam in the same ballpark as those sketchy philippines and indo collectors)

Good luck!

I don't care where it came from as long as it was eating ( unless Cyanide was involved), what beauty!
Definitely not a Pomacanthus., they are in a seperate genus.

Dude Dude the blueline angelfish you have is pretty sick and one of the better looking ones i have seen after aboserving ohter pics, if you dont mind can you answer some questions:

1. (The question on everybodys mind) How much it cost?
2. (The question on everybodys mind) Is it eating yet?
3. (The question on everybodys mind) Has it eatten any coral?

Word on the street is that these fish were caught in large shrimp nets essentially as by-catch. I guess Blue Lines tend to move to a certain depth this time of year where they are often snagged. I dont know how much truth there is to this, but... While better than being caught with cyanide obviously, the shrimp nets are rough on them and can cause bruising and internal damage. Just keep an eye on them for the next few weeks to make sure they keep acting healthy. Still, if they were eating well, thats a huge improvement over most blue lines Ive seen imported. Beautiful fish- Id love to get one for myself.

Ah yeah.. and Sheol is right- they are not Pomacanthus, they are a species of Chaetodontoplus.

He is eating flake, some fozen, and an open clam with my Regal. Hopefully he will continue to eat, figures crossed.

The LFS in Orange County from a few post above had them on sale for $70. Yes $70!!!! for a jumbo sized one. I bought the smallest one (4"). Last year I bought a jumbo one year from the LFS and the Blueline never ate despite giving it clams, live brine, ghost shrimp, flakes, pellets, black worms, nori and even live sponge. The Blueline died a month later.

My new 4" Blueline did not eat the first 3 days. By day 4 he ate some mysis and day 6 he ate pellets and day 8 he is eating flakes. For anyone getting a Blueline try getting the smaller ones. If you see a large adult specimen then see if it eats at the store.

The specimen I have is around 5.5". The LFS I ordered from had smaller 4" but he looked pretty beat up so I passed on it.
